Read Full Bio ↴Lewd Acts were one of San Diego California's best kept hardcore secrets.
Lewd Acts' brand of raw noise reeks of true soul and stunning originality. Opting to embrace their pre-1988 punk and hardcore influences, they shun metal tendencies of today's hardcore scene. Vocally crooning and sonically winding their way through each song in ways that are continuously moving and exciting.
A release history: Lewd Acts released their demo in 2005, a recording that garnered enough interest to come out as a 7"EP just a few months later. In mid 2006, they released their "...On Lonely Nights" 7"EP on the Eating Rats label. Early 2007 saw Lewd Acts self release their "Dark Days" CD Collection, which featured the demo and 7"EP, along with three additional songs (a release they gave us that we thought to be awesome). They were also featured on the "Sound & Fury Festival 2006" 2XDVD. In March 2008, the band self released their "Play Me Something That I Know" cassette, which was later followed by their celebrated Split 7"EP/CDEP w/ Hour Of The Wolf in May 2008. Lewd Acts released the "Lung Patrol" 7" on 16OH/Animal Style records in the Fall of 2009.Their last album "Black Eye Blues" was engineered by Kurt Ballou (Converge) at God City Studios and was released on Deathwish .
Lewd Acts broke up in June 2010
tyler then punched his guitarist in the face
but apparently it wasn't hard enough. Lewd Acts got back together in 2012.
Holy Hands
Lewd Acts Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sings no praise of the lost days
When youth's brains were sun-bathed
On sundays
And thesepews
Going to give our backsides slivers
When this reckless perspective
Is delivered
When the ethics and morals
Slip through the holes in his hands
Focus is fucked
On doctored doctrine
We're telling our own brethren
They ain't no they ain't
Gettin' into heaven
We've got hour heads
Looking up towards the sky
We're worried about the after=life
When we should live our lives
Before we die
These are the faults of man
When the ethics and morals
Slip through the holes in his hands
Again and again
In the opening verse of Lewd Acts's song Holy Hands, the songwriter presents a critical commentary on modern-day organized religion. The hymn in question is a remembrance of days gone by when youth's brains were sun-bathed on Sundays, but the lyrics go on to suggest that the present-day pews offer no solace. The faithful are subjected to sermons that often deliver a reckless perspective. The song acknowledges that the faults of man are evident in modern religions, where ethics and morals slip through the holes in his hands. The lines suggest that while the faithful are distracted by doctored doctrine and their own obsession with heaven, they overlook the faults or inadequacies of man.
The second verse continues in the criticism of organized religions, pointing to the lack of focus on the current life. The faithful should be concerned with living their lives before they die rather than worrying about the afterlife. The interpretation suggests that the faithful's focus is misplaced in the worry of what comes next. The emphasis put on the afterlife rather than on the present life leads the followers to judge their brothers and sisters and declare who will or will not make it to heaven. This judgment of who is worthy leads to more moral failures of mankind. The song implies that the current religious mindset is not helping the current moral compass of humanity.
