Loud
Lewis Del Mar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can you please sit the fuck down
Protesting in your paper crown
You love to feel offended
Fighting from computer trenches

You got a semi-automatic mouth
Go easy now
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud

Everyone's yelling
It's cracking the ceiling
Paint peeling like banana floor splitting wood splintering
The noise is deafening
Ring the alarm another sound is copulating
Spread eagle on my eardrums choking on Twitter cum
I miss summer doldrums, I miss sonic boredom, I Miss Congeniality
Strangled incessantly by the speaker hum
Screaming monks
Ears are numb
God can't whisper when the bass is up

You got a semi-automatic mouth
Go easy now
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud

Can you please turn yourself down
Ritalin kids doing cocaine wipe outs
No need to feel offended
Born to a time when the quiet ended

You got a semi-automatic mouth
Go easy now
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud

You got a semi-automatic mouth
You got a, you got a
Go easy, go easy, go easy now
And you're so loud
And you're so loud
And you're so loud

And you're so loud
And you're so loud

Overall Meaning

The song "Loud" by Lewis Del Mar is a commentary on the culture of outrage and performative activism that has emerged in the age of social media. The lyrics start by addressing someone who is "protesting in your paper crown", or someone who is trying to make a statement without actually taking any action. The singer then criticizes the person for enjoying being offended, and for fighting from the safety of their computer without actually engaging in meaningful dialogue or activism.

The chorus of the song emphasizes how loud everyone is, with "everyone's yelling" and the noise "cracking the ceiling". The imagery of "paint peeling like banana floor splitting wood splintering" and "ringing the alarm" emphasizes the chaos and discomfort caused by these loud voices. The singer laments the loss of quiet and boredom, and the constant stimulation of social media and outrage culture.

The second verse addresses the younger generation, who the singer suggests are overstimulated by technology and drugs. The line "born to a time when the quiet ended" suggests that there was once a time when things were quieter and calmer, but that now we are all constantly bombarded with information and noise.

Overall, "Loud" is a criticism of the way that social media and outrage culture have created a world of constant noise and stimulation, making it difficult to find meaningful connections or engage in real activism.

We used to play songs from Lewis Del Mar in the bar I used to work at, people would always come and ask us what was playing. Super underrated band. They capture the feeling of being intoxicated and young perfectly in this song. I know it's about people who talk shit on the internet, but man this song was such an anthem for me in 2018. The music video is youth incarnate.
