June Gloom

Sunsets lost in
Skies of hazy greys
June gloom sets in
Puts me in a daze
Nothing changes
All we do is wait
Our heads hanging
Shaking in dismay
'Cause everyone's afraid

Looks like the end of days
But it takes so much more
For anyone to say
We need another way
But if we wanted one
We'd do it just the same

Winter's coming
Still we're soaked in sun
Summer somehow
Split us one by one
Days are darker
Than they've ever been
But who could tell when
Summer never ends
(We've capsized in our end)

Looks like the end of days
But it takes so much more
For anyone to say
We need another way
But if we wanted one
We'd do it just the same

Words don't change a thing
Sun disguises darkness
Wish that I could save you
Wish that I could stop this

Looks like the end of days
But it takes so much more
For anyone to say
We need another way

But if we wanted one
We'd do it just the same

Overall Meaning

In the song "June Gloom" by Like The, the singer observes the change of seasons from summer to winter and the feeling of dread that comes with it, in addition to the overall state of the world they see around them. The lyrics reflect a sense of helplessness and hopelessness, as the singer notes that "nothing changes" and that people are too afraid to do something different. The opening lines paint a vivid image of a sunset obscured by a grey haze, setting the mood for the rest of the song.

The chorus emphasizes that despite the impending doom, nothing will change unless people actively try to make a difference. The lyrics suggest a collective apathy and a resignation to the current state of things. The lines "words don't change a thing / sun disguises darkness / wish that I could save you / wish that I could stop this" further emphasize this powerlessness and the desire to make a difference, but without any clear solution or plan of action.

Overall, "June Gloom" is a commentary on the human condition and the state of the world we live in. The lyrics reflect the cyclical nature of life and the sense of inevitability that comes with it, as well as the feeling of being powerless to change it.

Mutant Romance

"Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking" was a terrific surprise of an album. These girls have a great sound.

Anna Fitzpatrick

"Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?" Was a masterpiece, absolutely every song is great.

Jan de Koekenpan

So great to hear people are still listening to 'em! I can't expect my friends to ever have listened to them but that doesn't mean I enjoy the fact.

Harkinless

Yes! I've been listening since 2010, and The Like is my fav band all
long. Release Me is great, but this album is a masterpiece, and my come to the pop punk and emocore genres w/ girls.

Jan de Koekenpan

Just in tie to see them life or not? I only came across 'em last november so I was a tad late.

Harkinless

The Like is on a hiatus since 2012. And the formation is different. Charlotte Froom is no long part of the band.

Jan de Koekenpan

Haha yeah so I heard. Too bad, she seemed a good player, especially on the few surviving live records. But that doesn´t answer my question, haha. You ever seen ´em live?

I was a 15 year old indie boy so in love with each band member. I'm sure I'd watch MTV2 just hoping this would come on (back in the days when to use YouTube you had to unplug the phone to connect to internet (and could only do this after 6pm!)).

Luna

Still listening ... 10+ years later <3

Sweet Willow

This was my favorite line up of The Like and this is one of my favorite songs. I think Z Berg’s voice sounds best when she sings softly and then bust into the louder parts. She does this in the song Spark by her other band Phases.
