When Lil B titled his last digital label released mixtape I'm Gay, he received several death threats. Although he is heterosexual, he says the title is a message of support to the LGBT community. Referring to the alternative definition of gay, he says he is gay because he is happy. Following the death threats, he added "I'm Happy" in parenthesis to the album's title. I'm Gay received positive reviews with many fans commenting on the album's wide variety of positive messages and noting the unique beats and lyrical styles not common to mainstream hip hop. He raps about many controversial issues including race relations, poverty, humanity, and the justice system. The album also, according to many fans, shows the "true" side of Lil B. It entered the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart at #56 and the Heatseekers Albums chart at #20 for the week of July 16, 2011. It is for sale on iTunes but Lil B also uploaded it to the Internet for free, posting a link to it on Twitter and Facebook saying, "for all my fans who don't have $10 to buy my album, here it is for free."
Lil B typically releases at least one mixtape every month; so far in 2012 he has released 13 mixtapes - 4 in July alone. One of those released in July was the massive 848-song, nearly 5GB collection of Based Freestyles, which is his largest release to date. In 2013, hip-hop listeners voted Lil B as the greatest rapper of all time.

Welcome to the West Coast, you feel me?
Welcome to the west side
This is that Based world music
This is that Based music
Everybody can talk about
Shouts out to Reno and Las Vegas
To see past 30 things on my mind
A few seen the coffin early
Internet like trash, human race is dirty
Ask me if I give a fuck about a life sentence
Most rappers use that quote
As their life sentence
Now the judge gives them time
Plus the five digit's
Could have been the next doctor
Anything proper
Most people love war and they hate scores
At the top of the game and the plate is yours
In the water in them jaws, internet claws
Plus I'm banned like tiger balm
Word is bond, nigga, fight club, base god
All I do is live life and see correct
Write my whole brain down
My thoughts are stripped
I live for bliss, find the karma
Gotta shoot a flick i love my life
Going to respect my mind
Going to respect my mind
Yeah, hello, you're going to respect my mind
Listen, you're going to respect my mind
You're going to respect my mind
You're going to respect my mind
I'm going to respect my mind
Mister, you're going to respect my mind
Like I said, so with this Angels Exodus
I just want y'all to sit back
This is the part where you
Should be lighting up
Listening to these West Coast
Sounds right now
This is something that you can only
Get in the Bay Area
This is something you can only get out west
You feel me? This that real swag right here
That real base lil B
I feel like I'm at a prom right now
Angels Exodus, I'm living my life
Can't nobody tell me nothing
The lyrics to Lil B's song "Bay Area Shit" portray a sense of pride and ownership of the West Coast and the Bay Area. Lil B introduces himself as your "boy" and welcomes the listeners to the West Coast, creating a sense of camaraderie and belonging. He refers to his music as "Based world music," a term associated with his unique style and philosophy. The song emphasizes Lil B's refusal to conform to societal expectations or norms, as he dismisses statistics that predict his early demise and criticizes the state of the internet and humanity.
Lil B expresses his indifference toward the prospect of a "life sentence" and addresses rappers who use that as a metaphor for their struggles in life, implying that they lack real perspective. He highlights the wasted potential of individuals who could have been doctors or professionals but ended up in the criminal justice system. Lil B comments on the contradictory nature of people loving war and craving power, while also resenting those who attain success. He references being banned like tiger balm, perhaps alluding to his controversial status or being excluded from certain opportunities. The lyrics convey Lil B's belief in living life authentically, capturing his thoughts and striving for happiness and harmony while acknowledging the karmic consequences.
The chorus asserts Lil B's demand for respect and recognition of his perspective and intellectual capacity. He reaffirms this demand throughout the song, stating that he will respect his own mind and expects others to do the same. Lil B reinforces the uniqueness of his sound and style by mentioning his album "Angels Exodus" and encourages listeners to enjoy the music and vibe in the moment. He feels invincible and refuses to be dictated by others, asserting that nobody can tell him anything about his life.
