When Lil B titled his last digital label released mixtape I'm Gay, he received several death threats. Although he is heterosexual, he says the title is a message of support to the LGBT community. Referring to the alternative definition of gay, he says he is gay because he is happy. Following the death threats, he added "I'm Happy" in parenthesis to the album's title. I'm Gay received positive reviews with many fans commenting on the album's wide variety of positive messages and noting the unique beats and lyrical styles not common to mainstream hip hop. He raps about many controversial issues including race relations, poverty, humanity, and the justice system. The album also, according to many fans, shows the "true" side of Lil B. It entered the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart at #56 and the Heatseekers Albums chart at #20 for the week of July 16, 2011. It is for sale on iTunes but Lil B also uploaded it to the Internet for free, posting a link to it on Twitter and Facebook saying, "for all my fans who don't have $10 to buy my album, here it is for free."
Lil B typically releases at least one mixtape every month; so far in 2012 he has released 13 mixtapes - 4 in July alone. One of those released in July was the massive 848-song, nearly 5GB collection of Based Freestyles, which is his largest release to date. In 2013, hip-hop listeners voted Lil B as the greatest rapper of all time.

I g-g-g-g-gotcha don't I girl
I l-l-love you, yes I do
Every time I see those light blue eyes
I start to think about you and I, you and I
[Hook]
I'm just a california boy X8
[Verse 2]
I see you at the beach why don't you speak to me
Yeah I look kinda strange but it's okay
If you knew about love then you know that it's in your heart
And I wanna show you it's okay, it's okay, it's okay
[Hook]
[Verse 3]
So much love is in the air
Just go take a look outside
Peace is the only thing that we can do
And all we can do is try, do is try, do is try
[Hook]
In Lil B's song "California Boy," he expresses his love for a girl with light blue eyes. In the first verse, he exclaims how much he loves her and how she makes him think of a future together. The stuttered "g-g-g-g-gotcha" at the start of the verse shows how the prospect of a potential relationship with this girl makes him nervous, but he still expresses his love for her. The hook is a repetition of “I'm just a California boy,” emphasizing that he represents his state and is proud of it.
The second verse has Lil B addressing the girl directly, asking her why she won't speak to him when he sees her at the beach, acknowledging that he may look strange to others. He insists that love is in everyone's heart and he wants to show her it's okay. In the third and final verse, Lil B notes the abundance of love in the air and encourages people to look outside and see how peaceful the world can be if we try. This ties back to the theme of the song, as California is often seen as a laid-back and peaceful state.
Overall, the song is a simple yet heartfelt expression of love, highlighting Lil B's pride in being a California boy and his desire for peace and love in the world.
