Beginning his career, from 2011 to 2012, Durk released his debut, un-official mixtape, Iโm a Hitta which was released on August 26, 2011. On April 3, 2012, Durk released his sophomore mixtape, a sequel to his previous tape, Iโm Still a Hitta. Durka later released his third mixtape on November 5, 2012, titled Life Ainโt No Joke
Like many drill artists, Durkโs early career was plagued with legal issues and accusations of violence. These issues eventually led to his shows being canceled.
From 2013 to 2015 Durk released a total of four projects, three mixtapes, and an album. October 10, 2013, marked the release of the first Signed to the Streets, one of Durkโs most notable mixtapes and the start of a series. In the summer of 2014, specifically July 4, Durk released a sequel to Signed to the Streets and released Signed to the Streets 2 featuring his โWhat You Do to Meโ.
2015 would be an enormous year for Lil Durk as in July 2015, Durk released his debut studio album, Remember My Name which featured his Jeremih-assisted โLike Me.โ Later that year, Durk released his sixth mixtape 300 Days 300 Nights which included his then-girlfriend, Dej Loaf-assisted, โMy Beyoncรฉ.โ
From 2016 to 2017, Durk released a total of four solo projects and one collaborative project. On July 22, 2016, Durk released his sophomore studio album, Lil Durk 2X accompanied by features such as Future, Young Thug, Yo Gotti and more. Ending the year, Durk released They Forgot, his seventh mixtape.
Beginning 2017, in February, Durk released his seventh mixtape, Love Songs for the Streets, which is deemed as one of his most notable projects including features from Moneybagg Yo and YFN Lucci. Later that year in August, Durk released a collaborative EP with Lil Reese titled Supa Vultures; the project included his โNobody Knowsโ. On October 19, 2017, Durk carried on with his Signed to the Streets series with the highly anticipated Signed to the Streets 2.5. The mixtape included the start of yet another song series titled โIndiaโ dedicated to his fiancรฉ India Cox otherwise known as India Royale.
In 2018, Durk released two projects, he began with Just Cause Y'all Waited, Durkโs highest-charting mixtape peaking at #57 on the Billboard 200. Durk then released a sequel to Love Songs for the Streets titled Love Songs 4 the Streets 2. Durk was extremely successful prior to this album, however, many say that this exact album broke Durk into the mainstream rap industry as it had been his first project to chart in the top 10 of the Billboard 200.
2020 was an even better year for Lil Durk as he released his almost chart-topping Just Cause Yโall Waited 2 which peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200. It was later followed up with a deluxe.
The scars of violence run deep in Durkโs discography, particularly arising from the loss of OTF members Nunu (Nuski) and King Von at the hands of gunfire. Both artists are commemorated on his album The Voice, for which a deluxe version was released in 2021.
Anointing himself as the voice of the streets, Durk followed up this project with the release of the collaborative album The Voice of the Heroes with Lil Baby which brought the Chicago native artist his first #1 album.
Marking his first solo #1 album, in March 2022, Lil Durk released a melodramatic take on the deaths of his loved ones through an album titled 7220. The album became Durkโs first solo project to top the charts.

(Turn Me Up Josh)
(Young Cutta run it up)
Boy
Yeah
Let's get it
I wake up and I be feelin' I'm the realest
Late for court, I damn near hit civilian
I'm not trippin', I'm tryna get millions
Voice of the streets and all my niggas with it
I'm the same nigga, ain't nothin' different
This just a message, I hope the streets can hear me
You traded on me, man, that had me trippin'
I stopped sippin' lean, but I steady pop prescription (yeah, yeah)
Jakes on my dick, so I be duckin' the district (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Somebody tell Pluto I ain't have time to listen (oh)
Chiraq, I'm Jordan, so I wonder who Pippen?
What I do with this money, they standing on business
My lil' brother, he a big dawg, he coppin' the Bentley
And I ain't gotta have no condo to be on top of the city
Speakin' real shit, but the ones I cut off probably don't feel me
They used to be around for this cash, I'm like, "Where they go?"
They used to be around for that look, I'm like, "Where they go?"
They say they ass is my brother, but I'm like, "Where it go?"
They swear they have my back, but I'm like, "Where it go?"
Too many bitches around me, I'm like, "Where they go?"
Keep the city around me, I'm like, "Whoa, whoa"
Keep the trenches around me and I'm like, "Oh, whoa"
Keep the streets around me, I'm like, "Oh, oh"
Ayy, Shmurda, turn the streets up
Before I buy love, I'll buy my kids V-Bucks
Lamb' truck, Rolls truck, Bentley truck, three trucks
Ninety thousand for DeeDee bond, I still gave him a few bucks
Tell my niggas don't play with me if they thinkin' I'ma leave 'em
I don't care what they did for you, just hit me up if you need somethin'
Keep drivin', I see them now
Bitches all in my DMs now
Real rare you gon' see me cry
Fuckin' all on his BM now
And I be all in my feelings, oh
That shit hurt my soul
See they ain't hear if they ain't listenin'
They ain't tryna help my glow
They used to be around for this cash, I'm like, "Where they go?"
They used to be around for that look, I'm like, "Where they go?"
They say they ass is my brother, but I'm like, "Where it go?"

In the first verse, Lil Durk reflects on his life and his current situation. He expresses his determination to be successful and take care of his family. He mentions being involved in legal troubles and avoiding the police, while also reflecting on those who have betrayed him. He mentions quitting lean (a drug) but still relying on prescription drugs. Lil Durk also references his hometown of Chicago (Chiraq) and compares himself to Michael Jordan, wondering who his "Pippen" or loyal companion is. Despite the challenges he faces, he remains focused on his goals and speaks his truth, even if those who have betrayed him may not understand or support him.
In the chorus, Lil Durk questions the loyalty of those who used to be around him. He wonders where they have gone and questions their motives and intentions. He mentions that they claim to be his friends or brothers, but he questions their true loyalty. He also mentions the presence of women in his life and implies that they may not be trustworthy either. Despite this, Lil Durk remains strong and keeps his city, his neighborhood, and the streets close to him, as they represent his roots and authenticity.
In the second verse, Lil Durk name-drops Bobby Shmurda and mentions his desire to uplift the streets. He acknowledges that he is willing to spend money on material things for his children, like V-Bucks (a currency in the video game Fortnite), but also mentions that he has been generous to his friends in need by contributing to a bail bond. He emphasizes that he expects loyalty and support from his companions and encourages them to reach out to him if they require assistance. Despite his success, Lil Durk still faces personal struggles and acknowledges that his emotions can get the best of him. He admits to feeling hurt by those who haven't supported him and suggests that they are not interested in contributing to his success.
Overall, "Where They Go" is a reflection on Lil Durk's journey and the changing relationships he has experienced. He questions the loyalty of those who used to be around him and wonders where they have gone. Additionally, he emphasizes the importance of his city, his neighborhood, and the streets in shaping his identity and values. Despite facing challenges and betrayals, Lil Durk remains focused on his goals and truthfully expresses his emotions and experiences through his music.
