Referring to their style of hardcore punk music, the band declared in Frontiers Newsmagazine, “We put the ‘core’ back in homocore”. Their first recording was the self-released demo Don't Knock It Till You Try It. This was followed by a single called “What’s Up With The Kids” and then the self-titled LP Limp Wrist. However, since band members lived in different states maintaining the group became difficult. After an interlude they resumed touring in 2004 and self-released a new CD, Thee Official Discography the same year. The song “Ode” from this recording pays tribute to pioneering gay hardcore musicians Gary Floyd of The Dicks, Randy “Biscuit” Turner of Big Boys and Joshua Plague of Mukilteo Fairies and Behead The Prophet, No Lord Shall Live, providing a historical context for Limp Wrist.
The band’s best known song is “I Love Hardcore Boys, I Love Boys Hardcore”, which received much attention from fans and press alike. Lead singer Martin Sorrondeguy appears in "Queercore: A Punk-u-mentary" by Scott Treleaven and addresses the issue implicit in these song titles, what some might view as the apparent struggles of being both queer and being involved in the punk scene.
In 2004 Sorrondeguy released his own documentary film, "Beyond The Screams: A U.S. Latino Hardcore Punk Documentary." He had begun the film while still a member of his former band Los Crudos.
The band continues to perform and self-release records including the Want Us Dead 7" in 2006, featuring the songs Fake Fags and Want us Dead and a one-sided 12" in 2008 featuring Spun, and Bought Out.
Does Your Daddy Know?
Limp Wrist Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But he doesn't realize Limp Wrist is playing, oh no!
We're not the typical safe punk band
We're the raunchy ol' Wrist
A Band of fags
His son's 19 and bored with his life
It's a tired straight world, he doesn't want a wife
Daddy thought he'd have some good clean fun
The kids here aren't like the ones at other shows
The kids are really crazy here, it's the way that it goes
Daddy didn't know his boy had a plan
Daddy did you know your boy's out looking for a man?
Does your Daddy know who the hell is playing this show?
The record and shirt you bought, you hid it away
Cuz your folks will harass you cuz they'll think that you're gay.
Does your daddy know?
The lyrics to Limp Wrist's "Does Your Daddy Know?" tell the story of a young man who attends a Limp Wrist concert, much to the chagrin of his father. The song is sung from the perspective of the band, who take delight in the fact that they are not a typical "safe punk band," but rather a group of "raunchy ol' Wrist[s]" who proudly identify as "fags" and attract a wild, crazy crowd.
As the song progresses, the band chides the young man's father for not realizing who he was dropping his son off to see. They reveal that the young man is "19 and bored with his life," and looking to explore his sexuality in a world that feels tired and straight. In the end, the band asks the provocative question: "Does your Daddy know who the hell is playing this show?"
The lyrics to "Does Your Daddy Know?" serve as a powerful commentary on visibility and acceptance of queer identities within punk and hardcore music scenes. By proudly identifying as "fags" and playing music that is defiantly non-conformist, Limp Wrist sends a message to both their audience and the world at large that queer people are not afraid to take up space and be seen for who they are.
