San Valentin
Linda Mirada Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Parece mentira

Nadie sabe que me he enamorado
De ti.

Y paso la noche
Colgada de ti
Y un beso en el baño
De la mano
Nadie puede negar
Que he hecho algo para disimular

Y bailando te he encontrado en la pista
Tus amigos se han reido de mi
Nadie sabe que me he enamorado
De ti.

Te prometo que te grabo una cinta
Con canciones que pensé para ti
En el dorso voy a escribir
El día de san valentin

Y los hay que prefieren la playa
En verano o primavera en abril

Y yo he preferido elegir
El día de san valentin

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Linda Mirada's song San Valentin seems to express disbelief at finding oneself in a romantic situation in the middle of February, on Valentine's Day. The singer is sitting at a bar called Benny's, when somebody approaches her and orders a whiskey with water. She decides not to leave his side, and they end up spending the night together, dancing and kissing. While the singer seems to be in love, she also feels the need to hide her feelings from her lover's friends, who have laughed at her on the dance floor. She promises to make him a cassette tape with songs she has chosen for him, for Valentine's Day.

The song seems to be about the unexpected nature of love and how it can strike at any given moment. While it's clear that the singer is quite taken with her lover, she's also aware of the fleeting nature of their encounter, as expressed in her decision to make him a cassette tape, a medium that is both outdated and personal. Also, the fact that she's trying to keep her feelings under wraps suggests a sense of vulnerability and insecurity, particularly when it comes to expressing her emotions in public. The song captures the heady mix of emotions that come with falling in love, particularly when it's least expected, which is quite relatable for many listeners.
