Beautiful Boys
Lindi Ortega Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Not one for me
How could that be?
How could that be?
Was I not pretty enough?
Pretty enough for you
I'd do anything thing for you
Beautiful Boys
Beautiful Boys
Beautiful Boys
Not even one
Not one for me
All the beautiful boys
Not one that I could have
It makes me so very sad
Cause I wanted him so bad
But I wasn't pretty enough
Pretty enough for you
I should have worn bigger shoes
Or dressed up in the color blue
I should have been a sailor
You could have been my man
I would have been your soldier boy
Playing drums in the band
All the beautiful boys
I feel invisible
They're so irresistible
If only I were a boy.
In Lindi Ortega's song "Beautiful Boys," the singer laments that despite being surrounded by attractive men, none of them seem interested in her. She questions whether it's because she's not pretty enough and wonders what she could have done differently to catch their attention. The repetition of the phrase "beautiful boys" emphasizes the singer's yearning and frustration for someone she cannot have. She believes that the men around her are "irresistible" and wishes that she could be a part of their world.
The lyrics of the song tap into the universal feeling of unrequited love or attraction. The singer's struggle to understand why these beautiful men are not interested in her highlights the insecurity and self-doubt that can come with rejection. Additionally, the reference to the color blue and the idea of wearing bigger shoes suggests that the singer is considering changing her appearance to be more appealing, which can reflect on societal pressures to conform to beauty standards.
