Formed in 1996, Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led the singles "One Step Closer", "Crawling" and "In the End" all to chart highly on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The lattermost also crossed over to the nation's Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts.
The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The band's fifth album, Living Things (2012), combined musical elements from all of their previous records. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, and their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was a substantially more pop-oriented record. Linkin Park went on a hiatus when longtime lead vocalist Bennington died in July 2017. In April 2022, Shinoda revealed the band was neither working on new music nor planning on touring for the foreseeable future.
Linkin Park is among the best-selling bands of the 21st century and the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have won two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards and three World Music Awards. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade list. In 2012, the band was voted as the greatest artist of the 2000s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1. In 2014, the band was declared as "The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now" by Kerrang!.

Giving In
Linkin Park Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Shaking, lonely, and I am drinking again
Woke up tonight and no one's here with me
I'm giving in to you
Take me under, I'm giving in to you
I'm dying tonight, I'm giving in to you
Watch me crumble, I'm giving in to you
Caught up in life, losing all my friends
Family has tried to heal all my addictions
Tragic it seems to be alone again
I'm giving in to you
Take me under, I'm giving in to you
I'm dying tonight, I'm giving in to you
Watch me crumble, I'm giving in to you
I'm crying tonight, I'm giving in to you
I look forward to dying tonight, drink 'till I'm myself, life's harder every day
The stress has got me, I'm giving in, giving in, giving in now
Take me under, I'm killing all the pain
I'm dying tonight, I'm sick of all that faith
Watch me crumble, I'm killing all the pain
I'm crying tonight, I'm giving in to you
Take me under, I'm giving in to you
I'm dying tonight, I'm giving in to you
Watch me crumble, I'm giving in to you
I'm crying tonight, I'm giving in to you
Take me under, I'm giving in to you
I'm dying tonight, I'm giving in to you
The lyrics to Linkin Park's "Giving In" describe the struggle of addiction and the feelings of hopelessness that can accompany it. The singer is pleading for someone to walk them to the edge again, which is likely referring to the edge of the metaphorical cliff of addiction.
The lines "Shaking, lonely, and I am drinking again" and "I look forward to dying tonight, drink 'till I'm myself" demonstrate the cycle of addiction and how the singer feels trapped in it. They have lost their friends and feel alone and are turning to alcohol to numb the pain.
The chorus "Take me under, I'm giving in to you/I'm dying tonight, I'm giving in to you/Watch me crumble, I'm giving in to you/I'm crying tonight, I'm giving in to you" shows the singer's desperation to be saved and their willingness to give in to whoever can offer them salvation.
The lyrics also touch on the theme of tragedy, with lines like "Tragic it seems to be alone again." This speaks to the all-consuming nature of addiction and how it can lead to isolation and despair.
Overall, "Giving In" is a powerful depiction of addiction and the emotions that come with it.

Linkin Park - Given Up Lyrics
Wake in a sweat again
Another day's been laid to waste
In my disgrace
Stuck in my head again
Feels like I'll never leave this place
There's no escape
I'm my own worst enemy
I've given up
I'm sick of feeling
Is there nothing you can say?
Take this all away
I'm suffocating!
Tell me what the fuck is wrong with me!
I don't know what to take
Thought I was focused, but I'm scared
I'm not prepared
I hyperventilate
Looking for help somehow, somewhere
And no one cares
I'm my own worst enemy
I've given up
I'm sick of feeling
Is there nothing you can say?
Take this all away
I'm suffocating!
Tell me what the fuck is wrong with me!
God!
Put me out of my misery
Put me out of my misery
Put me out of my...
Put me out of my fucking misery!
I've given up
I'm sick of feeling
Is there nothing you can say?
Take this all away
I'm suffocating!
Tell me what the fuck is wrong with me!

That 17 second scream is (in my opinion) the ultimate example of how talented Chester was.
@nyannaaung2544
Pure emotion and energy in that scream. Gives me goosebumps everytime.
@marcbarantes7342
Its 18...
@hfestag
It wasn't the scream that shows his talent. It was being able to do that then turn around and sing the softest notes you would think angel would sing.
@nero8041
fry scream doesn't take much air
@hfestag
@@nero8041 but it strains your vocal cords and switching from a low note from the scream to the higher notes of the singing takes talent. Have you ever tried to scream that long then turn around and sing soft notes right after? It takes major talent.
@GbrCaz
Chester Bennington: screams
