Rest in Power
Lionheart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tell me have you ever lost somebody?
Well I have and it hurts so bad. I wanna off somebody
I lost a brother he was 18 years old, he was 18 years old

Rest in power, rest in power, rest in power

Now he's living in the sky, so he's looking down on me
Forever having my back and watching over me
But everytime I hear the name, my heart breaks
And everytime I feel the pain, there's no escape

Rest in power, rest in power, rest in power
Gone but not forgotten 'cause you're looking down and watching

Now you're living in the sky so I do it in your name
I'm banging 2 pac's, how long will they mourn me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lionheart's song Rest in Power deal with grief and the pain that comes with the loss of a loved one. The artist speaks from personal experience, sharing the story of losing his brother at just 18 years old. The gravity of the loss is apparent in the opening lines, "Tell me have you ever lost somebody? Well I have and it hurts so bad. I wanna off somebody." These lines illustrate the intense pain and frustration that can come with the sudden absence of a loved one. However, the song takes a turn towards hope as the artist reflects on the idea that his brother is now living in the sky and watching over him. The phrase "Rest in power" is repeated throughout the song, serving as both a memorial to the artist's brother and a message of hope that he will always be remembered.

To my mother who taught me true strength. I watched her as she worked her self to death. A will that was unbreakable. Even during her chemo she worked to put food on the table. May she rest in power.
