Vice
Lisbon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

First of all, I hit the wall
Addicted to addiction
Thinking I had it all
You cry some more
Head at the ball
I got the devil in my pocket
And he's whispering
What's your VICE?
You've got me drinking till I'm sober
Making love till it's over
You've got me thinking on what's your VICE?
What's your VICE? What's your VICE?

What's your VICE?
You know my body so long
It's pessimistic vision gets me enough o hold on
Far gone,
Head at the ball
I got the devil in my pocket
And he's whispering
What's your VICE?
You've got me drinking till I'm sober
Making love till it's over
You've got me thinking on what's your VICE?
What's your VICE? What's your VICE?

What's your VICE?
You've got me drinking till I'm sober
Making love till it's over

You've got me thinking on what's your VICE?
What's your VICE? What's your VICE?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Lisbon's song "Vice" speak of the struggle with addiction and the search for fulfillment. The opening line, "First of all, I hit the wall," suggests that the singer has come to a point of realization that their addiction has become a problem. They acknowledge being "addicted to addiction" and the desire to fill a void or have a sense of control. The line "Thinking I had it all" implies that the singer may have been looking for satisfaction in material possessions or success, which ultimately led to disappointment.

The chorus asks the question, "What's your VICE?" This repeated question reinforces the idea that everyone has a struggle, whether it's substance abuse, unhealthy relationships or something else. The line "You've got me drinking till I'm sober, making love till it's over" juxtaposes two forms of addiction: substance abuse and emotional attachment/relationships. It suggests that the singer is trying to escape or numb the pain through these behaviors.

The overall tone of the song is reflective and melancholic, but there is a sense of hope in the acknowledgement of these struggles. The line "It's pessimistic vision gets me enough to hold on" suggests that even in the face of difficulties, the singer is trying to find the strength to keep going.

A year late...

...BUT...

...I've been wondering this for a while, so I decided to look around just now.

There's 3 band members listed on their Facebook page (even though there's 4 members, weird), so I looked them up

Matthew Varty - Not sure what he's up to now. His Instagram bio is "former poet", so maybe he isn't making music anymore.

Alex Wright - I feel like it's a fairly generic name so it might be a different Alex Wright that I found (though it looks like the same one, going off pictures online). Now a DJ.

Joe Atkinson - Now part of Sam Fender's band

As the other guy said, looks like we won't be seeing any more from them :/
