In 1976 at the age of 17 she became one of the founding members of the legendary teenage all-female hard rock band The Runaways. There she played lead guitar.
After the group folded in 1979, she began a solo career. Her guitar playing was well respected amongst her peers, both when she was a member of The Runaways and as a solo act. When she had the material to back her up, Ford was inarguably capable of rocking out aggressively and assertively, and more times than not, better than the best of her male counterparts. Her first two albums, Out for Blood and Dancin' on the Edge were relatively successful, and in 1985, Ford was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Performance for "Gotta Let Go", along with Wendy O. Williams and Pia Zadora. However the musical genre of "arena metal rock" had already crested and was now beginning its decline in the second half of the 1980s.
Nothing was heard from Ford for the next four years; a follow-up to Dancin' on the Edge, titled The Bride Wore Black, was abandoned and never released, as Ford switched from Mercury Records to RCA Records. By the time Ford returned again, the lighter pop-metal she had long favored had broken through to mainstream audiences, which set the stage for her most commercially successful album, 1988's Lita. With Sharon Osbourne as her manager, and slickly produced by Mike Chapman, the album featured Ford's first commercial hit, the #12 "Kiss Me Deadly". Its follow-up ballad, a duet with Ozzy Osbourne entitled "Close My Eyes Forever", provided both artists with their first Top Ten single.
Lita Ford is back with a vengeance! Her new album Wicked Wonderland is due for release October 6th 2009. More information can be found on her My Space profile: Lita Ford Official My Space Profile

When I fear the touch,of the highway's call
When I close my eyes and the dreams won't come
When the world has set me free
Will you still be with me?
My Loverman
When the moon turns red, and the sun burns black
Will you lay me down,on a bed of stone
In that long and silent sleep, will you be with me?
What if I just go flying away?
What would you say?
Would you wait a million years?
Would you cry a million tears for me?
Or would you take my hand?
Would you fly away with me?
Would you be with me?
Loverman
When the hour glass is broken
And the final word is spoken
When fate has lost it's power
This word will still be ours Loverman
Oh, my Loverman
Yeah
What if I just go flying away?
What would you say?
Would you steal me from the cold?
Would you lead me to my soul again?
And when we reach the end, when we face eternity
Would you be with me, my Loverman?
Oh, Loverman
Yeah
When the river don't run, and the night won't fall
When I fear the touch,of the highway's call
When I close my eyes and the dreams won't come
When the world has set me free
Will you still be with me?
My Loverman
When the moon turns red, and the sun burns black
When the reaper's whip falls across my back
Will you lay me down,on a bed of stone
In that long and silent sleep, will you be with me?
The song Loverman by Lita Ford is an emotional ballad depicting the deep love and loyalty of a woman to her lover, even in the face of death and the unknown. She questions whether her lover would still be with her when the world has set her free and the dreams won't come. She wonders if he would lay her down on a bed of stone in that long and silent sleep and be with her when the moon turns red and the sun burns black. She even considers the possibility of flying away and asks if he would be with her, wait a million years or cry a million tears for her.
The chorus of the song is an expression of the woman's unconditional love for her lover, who she refers to as Loverman. She sings that even when fate has lost its power, this word - Loverman - will still be theirs. The woman is asking her lover to promise that he would be with her until the end, through eternity even when the hourglass is broken and the final word is spoken. The song is a poignant reflection on the deep and unbreakable bond between two people in love.
