I bought a 300Ah (200A max continuous current) LiFePO4 battery off eBay $841. 2yr warranty.
I also bought a 3kW Inverter off eBay for around $350.
2200W Induction Cooktop off eBay $39.95.
So I’m happy with that. I did also have to get various switches and 95m㎡ cables for the inverter but I’m pretty happy with the price.
Also recently added a Ninja Foodi Flip Air Fryer oven for under $200 on sale.
I have a 40A DC-DC ($222) with solar input MPPT - 250W Solar currently.

You basically can’t run an inverter and an induction cooker will 100A BMS. Everything will just take too long. You want to be able to run your cooktop at full power - you’ll be amazed how quickly water boils using induction but you’ll need to be drawing up to 200A for that.

Watched the video twice.
Absolutely would love a vid on the assembly of the Alibaba 4 x 3.2v lithium batteries and 100amp BMS showing fitment/installation in the Bunnings box, and holding them in place.
Wire gauge/sizes, inline fuses, Anderson plugs, crimping of wire lugs etc, and links to items if possible.

I easily get around 2weeks running my 40ltr Engel without any charge

Cheers Daz, handy to know. I had to go with the lowest profile I could so it would fit under the floor at the back. It didnt leave me much room on top.I might consider one of those though when I do the build for the caravan. I'll have a little extra height to play with but am considering 2 x 12v banks ...we'll see

Good vid! I looked at buying the same LiPo4 cells and a BMS, I guessed needing 300Ah but ended up buying a "reputable" Alibaba 200Ah battery delivered for A$700. I'll try it out, it took 3 weeks from manufacture in China to Remote WA (Australia Post takes 3 weeks to get a letter from Perth to Kalbarri!) with the idea of getting another so I have 400Ah and a weight of 40 kg, I have tried it out with a $250 3,000w inverter, peak 6,000w. The $50 induction cooktop I have doesn't phase it, I hadn't considered dialling down the power, a good tip but I will need a pod expresso machine, an essential for life camping! I am also toying with the idea of on-demand electrical hot water heating for showers and dish washing, the theory is dubious admittedly but I am keen to try it out. A good proof of concept plan, adventure is the game!
I only have a 250w solar panel but room for another, with Renology to handle the charging.
I like the app you use to monitor, what is it?

I’ve only just moved over to Lithium myself. I didn’t know that you could get separate cells so I bought the battery you showed for $469 100AH. I’ve got a 140w solar panel on the roof, a 20amp Kickass charge controller and a 2000w inverter from JayCar. My only current drains are a 14L Brass Monkey fridge from JayCar and a 12vdc electric blanket from Gerry Harvey. The inverter is “just in case” type so not really used. Anyway your expedition into Lithium is great and I’ll be interested to see how it goes.

Hey David, Keep me posted on how that goes. I'm curious who some of those go over time. There's so much out there these days it's hard to know what to go with. I only just missed out on one of those brass monkey 15L fridges second hand the other day for 100 bucks. I was too slow. I thought it would be a nice match with my draw fridge to run as a freezer when camping and not take up too much space. Might still get one later. How are you finding it ?

Hello mate, well I don't know where to start? I thoroughly enjoyed this vid from start to finish, and I am now a sub. I saw the vape, heard about DIY and figured that this was worth a watch. I'm not a brand snob either, so I am happy to give King's a go, and I haven't really been disappointed yet, and I have quite a few of their goodies - thanks to my kids, they make great birthday and Father's day gifts.
You and I seem to share a similar philosophy in many areas and I look forward to going thru your previous vids for some more great content. I am still working on and perfecting my 12v setup in my 4x4, so I look forward to seeing what else you have done, and how it differs from mine.
Definitely want to see the rest of the footage not yet published from this series. I liked the content of this vid, but would suggest a couple of things. 1. Try to limit the length to 20 mins, as some fail to make it to the end of longer ones. 2. If you group say your testing content together, people can select and watch the area they are interested in, which will give you more vids to select from. I like your presenting style and DIY mentality.

Thanks again Muzz. My 4wd build and diy solar type stuff is always an ongoing project for me. I find I'm constantly trying to improve it, tweak it or just try new things. Which is why I sometimes so share changes etc because they don't always work or aren't finished. Good to see there are others it there the same. I certainly understand the length of video thing and it's something that challenges me. The problem I have is time. If I break then up I different videos it means more editing, loading and responding to comments etc. So at the moment, doing it as a job lot saves me time. I'll work on it in the future though because it gives me more videos and content to do it that way. Cheers

I reckon if you've got the battery/inverter capacity then an induction hotplate's a good idea. No carrying gas bottles, no issues with wind, and as long as your wiring is up to scratch there's a safety benefit.

that was my thinking Saxon. I always do overkill on my wiring just to be sure. I don't believe in cutting corners when it comes to that. I am liking it as an option though and no gas bottles is a big win . so between the battery power chain saws and the lithium battery, no more flammable or combustible materials in my 4wd.

Thank you for an interesting video. Good to see some induction cooking. Myself is building a solar setup for my grandma off-grid, just waiting for the Daly BMS :)
Many seems to be more for gas cooking rather than induction. But I went with it anyways. Good to see some more people trying it out :) How many watts were you able to draw out from the inverter with the induction plate? Since we have 230VAC in Europe I couldn't follow since you have different voltage from us. Regards from Sweden 🇸🇪

Recently, I started learning about lifepo4 batteries. I am building my lifepo4 project in my head now. My consern is what cable size you run from the alternator to Daly BMS, and how these 250A effect to the alternator. Thanks

No worries, happy to help you spend your money 😁. The alternator isn't connected to the BMS directly. It's goes via the main battery, then through the dcdc charger and then to the battery/BMS. The BMS sits between the battery negative and anything else that would normally be connected to the battery negative. So the cable size has to be able to handle what ever load your dcdc charger will put on the main battery/ alternator. The 250a rating of the BMS means it can pass through that current to loads connected to it. That rating has no impact on your main battery at all. How that makes sense

Thanks for the video. I've got the same exact BMS but on 100Ah cells through a 1000w inverter and trying to figure out if those 1800W+ induction units pulse their power draw from 0 to Max to simulate lower power when used on lower settings as that would trip my inverter or my BMS. Good to know your unit didn't do either. I'll probably grab one of those cheap-o cooktops off ebay so fingers crossed the Breville isn't doing something special..

No I was hoping it wouldn't do that, but I'm yet to hear of one that doesn't when on a lower setting. I'm need to do since more testing but it looks like the smaller the base of the pot/pan the less power it may use. But don't quote me. I've seen some odd things but that's what I'm thinking so far.

I brought 1000 watt kettle plus induction cook top just run cook top at about halfway. Many different cookers and crock pot about the 1000 watt mark 100 amp lithium battery 1000 watt inverter. 2000 watts is better but about twice the price to set up.

How do you think the battery will handle bouncing around in the back on trips?

These are prismatic cells which are the details design as you will find in your off the shelf batteries. So in theory no more or less suitable for 4wd installs. The only difference would be how you package them and protect them. Obviously the off the shelf option has its own box to protect the cells. I've seen others build these into a timber box or just use a battery box like those from Supercheap . I was going to use one of those but couldn't find one the right size. The dcs have a good rep and I don't want to talk you out of them, I just want to share what I'm up to for informations sake and still want everyone to make their own choices.

Your battery should have a C rating charge and discharge.
The C rating is amps 1C = 100 amps
2C = 200 amps.

You're both correct. The c rating is used to measure the charge and discharge rates. The c relates to the battery capacity. So so if the battery or cells capacity is 100Ah 1c is 100A (1 x c), 2c is 200A (2 x c) and 0.5c is 50A (0.5 x c) . I.e # x Capacity = charge / discharge rating. These rates are not always the same and often charge rates can be half the discharge rate.

sure is Glenn. the reason I went with these is even the smaller ones from the same sites were similar in price to these cells. So I figured why not go the bigger ones. It's overkill for sure but nice to have. No selling for me im afraid. Happy just to let people know my experience and let them make up their own minds. I even hate the thought that someone might do the same as Ive done and have a bad experience. Not that I can control that though. If I was selling stuff, I'd be a wreck worrying about it. there does seem to be retailers in Aus doing just that though. mark ups though still make it worth looking oveseas in my opinion.

Where you have your Inverter mounted (Rear R/H side), there seems to be what looks like a square panel. Is this actually removable and If so, how? Would I lever It from the top, bottom or sides? Hi Nick, was just looking through the comments and saw yours. Not a silly question at all. The voltage and current values depend on how the cells are wired together. Each cell is 3.2V so you need 4 in series (cell 1 positive to cell 2 negative, cell 2 postive to cell 3 negative, and so on) to reach a 12V working battery pack, but series connections don't increase capacity. It's still 270Ah. And vice versa, parallel connections (all cell positives bridged together, all cell negatives bridged together) do increase the capacity, but the voltage remains at 3.2V for the entire pack. You can also arrange 2 series and 2 parallel connections to get a 6.4V 540Ah configuration, but most systems are in increments of 12V.

I've been cooking with that identical induction cooker, can confirm i can have the pan hot and spitting shit at you at 1000W. dont need loads of power into them. Yet to figure out how long it would take to replace the energy used as its not on offgrid setup.... but roughly 1000W for 25ish minutes...

cheers Spook, that sound similar to my experience thus far. that half hour odd is my expectation for cooking. based on my load testing thats about 50ah. which at full sun would cost me about 3 hours on solar or 1 hour running the car. but of course I could do this for several days before needing it to be topped up. usually when I'm caping its either short stints of a few days or has several hours of 4wding in the middle. Still , I'll need to put it into action to find out real world

ummmm maybe. my supercheap one was pushing the required 14.4v into them when hooked up but I only used it to do a bulk charge and wasnt sure how it would respond when the cells neared their fully charged state or if it would just keep trying to push more current in. So that was why I purchased a dedicated charger. If you have a variable power supply like the one I showed in the video, you can select the correct voltage and use one of those. Also some lithium off the shelf systems call themselves drop in replacements for agms and say you can use all you normal chargers as the bms will handle the rest. I'm not sure on that and can't give a definitive answer. lithiums don't like to be float charged. so a proper charger only does bulk and absorption modes for lithium. floating them can hurt their longevity.
