After the three founding members originally met in high school, a bassist and a drummer were found, and they all moved to a house in Silver Lake in 2008 to record their album. Their debut album as Local Natives, "Gorilla Manor", was released in the UK on November 2nd, 2009, and saw a US release date of February 16th, 2010. The band's sound has been described as "afropop-influenced guitars with hyperactive drumming and hooky three-part harmonies". They started to attract the attention of the music press after playing nine shows at the 2009 SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Initial reviews of Local Natives have drawn favourable comparisons to Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend.
Utilizing lots of vocal harmonies and drifting, dreamlike melodies, Local Natives have an intricate sound based around the delicate interconnectedness of all of their parts. This gives the band a sound that is able to be orchestral while still feeling understated, evoking the carefully assembled pop of Grizzly Bear. Their debut, Gorilla Manor, arrived in 2009 through U.K. label Infectious Records (with a domestic release coming by way of Frenchkiss in 2010). In 2011, Andy Hamm left Local Natives, leaving them to continue on as a quartet. In 2013, the band returned with its sophomore album, Hummingbird, featuring the single "Breakers".

Someday Now
Local Natives Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Go to sleep, love
On the beach, I knew you'd stay
And thinking how you thought we'd change the same, love
Reflections on my face
Echoes where we speak
Close enough to touch
'Cause what's behind the dark
Worked all my life to see
Scale the castle wall
To keep something between
How long could I ask you to wait?
Wait for someday
You already waited so long
You want someday to be now
Underneath the single roof, we shared the walls
But it's like you don't live here
I know that I ask so much and all that you ever ask
Is just to let you in
Reflections on my face
Echoes where we speak
Close enough to touch
Far enough to flee
'Cause what's behind the dark
Worked all my life to see
Scale the castle wall
To keep something between
How long can I ask you to wait?
The wait for someday
You've already waited so long
You want someday, someday now
I sat on the bed
I sat without waking you
Is it alive? I can't
Someday, make it true
How long?
You've already waited so long
You want someday, someday now
In "Someday Now" by Local Natives, the lyrics explore a complex relationship where the singer is afraid of being the cause of their partner's sleepless nights. They express a desire to spare their loved one from any distress or anxiety that may arise from their actions or behaviors. The plea for their partner to "go to sleep" demonstrates the singer's concern for their well-being and a wish to protect them from any harm.
The second verse delves into the singer's self-reflection and their perception of how their actions have affected the relationship. The line "Reflections on my face, echoes where we speak" indicates a deep introspection and the realization that their feelings and thoughts are mirrored in their partner. They acknowledge that they are close enough to create a connection and understanding, but simultaneously distant enough to escape when things become overwhelming. The mention of working all their life to uncover what lies behind the darkness suggests that they have longed for clarity and understanding in their relationship.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the longing for a future that is no longer elusive. The singer questions how long they can continue asking their partner to wait for "someday" to arrive. They recognize that their partner has already demonstrated incredible patience, waiting for something promised but never achieved. The repetition of "someday, someday now" highlights their urgency to move beyond the waiting and uncertainty.
In the bridge, the singer finds themselves in a moment of contemplation while seated on a bed next to their sleeping partner. The question of whether their love is still alive lingers, leaving them uncertain about the future. The repetition of the phrase "someday, make it true" conveys their yearning for their envisioned future to become a reality.
Overall, "Someday Now" captures the complexities of a relationship where one partner feels a responsibility for the other's well-being and recognizes the need for change. It conveys a sense of longing for a future that is no longer distant, while acknowledging the patience and sacrifices made by both individuals. The introspective nature of the lyrics invites listeners to reflect on their own relationships and the challenges and aspirations they may encounter.

This song becomes into a morning mantra for me and I think could finish 3 time before the real end. Rhythm at the beginning It seems to be a take off in a plane, and near the end you jump in free fall between clouds.
