The most promi… Read Full Bio ↴Lodger is a name used by several bands and musicians:
The most prominent is this entry:
1) Lodger is a Finnish indie band, formed by Teemu Merilä in 2002. Although largely unknown outside of Finland, they have established a cult-following on the internet due to the popularity of their flash music videos. Their first video "Doorsteps" and all their subsequent are designed by the bands lyricist Hannes Häyhä.
Their big break-through was with the internationally known flash-video 'I Love Death' which was later followed by the videos 'God Has Rejected The Western World' and '24h Candy Machine'.
Their first album, Hi-Fi High Lights Down Low, is rarely found in record-stores but can be bought over the internet at www.stupido.fi, also check amazon marketplace.
Their second album, How Vulgar, received lukewarm critical and fan response -- but don't let that stop you from listening. The tracks "Friends" and "Brunswick Centre" are among their best.
Their third and latest album, Honeymoon Is Over, is, to paraphrase Merilä, what How Vulgar should have been. Much of the music has a harsher tone than their previous work.
For flash videos go to lodger.fi and for news of tours, or updates, use their myspace www.myspace.com/lodger as this is actually updated from time to time.
In 2007 there was a small tour of America and there may have been a trip to the UK also in 2007.
2) Lodger was also a late 1990s indie 'supergroup' composed of Danny Goffey (Supergrass), Pearl Lowe (Powder), Neil Carlill (Delicatessen), and Will Foster (also Delicatessen). The band released one album, A Walk in the Park, in 1998.
3) Lodger may also refer to a music collagist, DJ and singer in Austin, Texas, who has also recorded under the names David Lodger, David Lodger's Hallucination (DLH), Thr33 Record Set, Supressed Laughter and Ziggy. He was a founding member of the underground, early 80's, Houston-based garage band Dead Eddie.

Two Smiles
Lodger Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is like a bed
Useful only when
You lie down.
Your head
Is a classy bar
No shirt, no shoes,
No service.
my head is like a bed
Useful only when you lie down.
Your head is a classy bar
No shirts, no shoes, no service.
We can sit, eat and talk
But two smiles is a long walk.
my head
An old featherweight
Technical K.O.
Every fight.
Your head
Like a grave
And I dig it
Every night.
We can sit, eat and talk
But two smiles is a long walk.
We can sit, eat and talk
But two smiles is a long walk.
The lyrics to Lodger's Two Smiles Is a Long Walk reflect on the differences between two people and their heads, likening them to a bed and a bar. The first verse compares the singer's head to a bed, which is only useful when someone lies down on it. Conversely, the person they're singing about has a head that's like a classy bar, which seems to suggest that it's always open for business, regardless of how it's being used. The second verse goes on to describe each person's head in more detail. The singer's is compared to an old featherweight boxing champ that always loses, while the other person's is like a grave that they find themselves digging in every night.
Despite these differences, the chorus suggests that these two people can still sit, eat, and talk together. However, the final line of the chorus - "But two smiles is a long walk" - seems to imply that while these two people can coexist, they're not necessarily on the same page. The song ends on this note of wistful disconnect, as if saying that while it's nice to have someone to talk to, it's still difficult to truly connect with another person.
Overall, the song's lyrics are quite cryptic and open to interpretation. It's not entirely clear who the singer is referring to or what the significance of the two smiles mentioned in the chorus is. However, there's a sense of melancholy and introspection that runs throughout the song, as if the singer is trying to grapple with their own feelings of isolation and distance from others.
