Longwave followed up on the success of The Strangest Things by entering the studio in 2004 with famed producer John Leckie, whose work with Radiohead and Pink Floyd endeared him to the critical taste of the band, and There’s a Fire was released in 2005.
With a return to the studio planned for late 2007, Longwave found itself on the list of indispensable listening for the first part of this millennium. Expect them to stay there. Longwave's latest album, Secrets are Sinister, was released in November 2008 on Original Signal Recordings.

We're not gonna stop at nothing
Anything you do, it's nothing changed
Anywhere you go we're coming in
And when it gets in you it sets
And then you know it's all the same
A complicated mess!
We're not gonna give, give an inch
We're not gonna let up just a pinch
Anything you do, it's nothing changed
Anywhere you go, we're coming in
And when it gets in you it sets
And then you know it's all the same
A complicated mess
A mess
A mess
We've got machines to beat you up
Jaws that eat, eat you up
You just keep backing up
Pulling away and running out the back
But you can't get away
No, you can't get away
No, you can't get away
In Longwave’s “We’re Not Gonna Crack”, the lyrics revolve around a resilient attitude and a firm refusal to surrender. The opening lines, “We’re not gonna crack, crack a bit/ We’re not gonna stop at nothing” convey the idea that the singer(s) won’t capitulate, even in hard situations. The lyrics then move on to cautioning others that their actions are futile, as “Anything you do, it’s nothing changed/Anywhere you go, we’re coming in”. This can be interpreted as a warning to those who might try to oppose the singer(s), asserting that their efforts will be in vain.
Later in the song, there is a reference to the sense of overwhelm that can come from stress: “And when it gets in you it sets/And then you know it’s all the same/A complicated mess”. This reference could mean that the singer(s) have experienced difficulties and know what it’s like to feel stuck in the same situation, and are determined not to let it beat them.
The lines “We’ve got machines to beat you up/Jaws that eat, eat you up/You just keep backing up/Pulling away and running out the back” portray the idea of force and power that the singer(s) have at their disposal to overcome resistance. However, despite the tools they have access to, the conclusion of the song is that no matter how much somebody tries to evade them, they won’t shake off the singer(s), “No, you can’t get away/No, you can’t get away/No, you can’t get away”.
In summary, Longwave’s “We’re Not Gonna Crack” is a song about the determination to succeed, resilience in the face of adversity, and an unwillingness to back down.

KEXP's sound engineers for their in-studio's were on point even back then. a small room full of 4x12's and 8x10's could've been a sonic nightmare to mix. and yet, we can hear everything super clearly and with punch. fucking kudos
