Tigertrap Records first stumbled across LOOK SEE PROOF in The Bedford Angel on a particularly drizzly May Friday evening and were blown away by their mod-tinged exuberance, their bold yet insanely catchy melodies and inspired 3-part harmonies. Following a pivotal gig at the London Wilmington a few weeks later and still reeling from the fact that NO OTHER LABELS HAD DISCOVERED THEM YET, the band were spirited away in June for some World Cup-avoiding sessions with up and coming producer James Lewis (Roland Shanks/ The Dead 60's/ Morning Runner).
Tell Me Tell Me Tell Me
Look See Proof Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's just a robot
That you cannot control so well
Because you said to me,
I can always tell what you are thinking
But how can this be when you look so fucking stupid thinking
And dawn,
So now it's happened
Yes, they've played you like a fiddle that girl
Cos' your the soft spot
And it sees to hit you Oh so well
Because you said to me,
I can always tell what you are thinking
So clearly I see a broken record stands here sinking
And dawn,
These people don't look the same (x3)
The lyrics to Look See Proof's song Tell Me Tell Me Tell Me are about someone who has fallen for a girl who is described as a robot that they cannot control. The lyrics suggest that the person regrets falling for this particular girl, as she seems to be manipulating them by playing them "like a fiddle". The singer also points out that the person had said they could always tell what the singer was thinking, but the singer finds it hard to believe this when the person looks "so fucking stupid thinking". Additionally, the repetition of the line "And dawn, these people don't look the same" could be interpreted as the singer's realization that people who seemed trustworthy before are no longer reliable.
The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and disappointment. The person seems to have been deceived by someone they trusted and believed understood them. The language used is very direct and profane, which gives the lyrics a raw, emotional quality. The repetition of certain phrases, such as "I can always tell what you are thinking" and "And dawn, these people don't look the same", emphasizes the singer's confusion and disillusionment.
