The Problem With Your Daughter
Lord Huron Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I have come to speak with you about your daughter.
She's no girl, she's a woman sir. If she wants to go and see the world she oughtta.
You have kept her here for twenty years alone.
But I'll have you know she's fully grown, and she sure knows just what she wants, my god.

If you won't allow her leaving I must take her.
I'm seeing red and I'd kill you dead if you tried to keep her here, no you can't make her.
You imagine that she's just as pure as ever.
But I have been known to shake her bones yeah we've been known to shudder and moan together.

I am not the problem. You are.

I love her. She loves me. I thought you should know

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Lord Huron's song "The Problem With Your Daughter" are a conversation between a man and a father discussing the father's daughter. The man is pleading with the father to allow his daughter to leave and explore the world since she is a grown woman. The father has kept her at home for twenty years, but the man insists that she knows what she wants and deserves the freedom to pursue it.

The man becomes increasingly agitated, threatening violence if the father doesn't allow her to leave, and exposing a sexual relationship that he has with the daughter. The powerful line "I am not the problem, you are" suggests that the father's overbearing control is the real issue, not the actions of the man or the daughter.

Overall, the song speaks to themes of freedom, control, and sexual liberation. It portrays a woman who is trying to break free from the constraints of her father's control and society's expectations of her. The man in the song is portrayed as a liberator, but also as someone who uses sex as a tool for rebellion and breaking free.

Lord Hurons new stuff is soo crazy different to their old stuff - I like to think that with the lore of the band; the change in the sound of the music reflects the journey the guy went on when he headed out west.

My favourite band of all time, enraptured by this band, love that they have a running story and lore with each album and song.

@sammariofan

One of the most atmospheric bands of our time. Their music is beautiful and all albums have proven to be quite the escapism listen

I love this song and also "We Went Wild". I'd kinda like to hear them remastered, with the vocals a little more in front. I'd sing along if I knew the words.

It's actually genius how they make their songs. The words in the background so you really have to listen. Once you know them you cant not hear them. ☝️👈👌 genius
