Lynn was born in Butcher Hollow, Van Lear, Kentucky in 1932. According to Songfacts, Loretta Lynn's superstar Country career started in 1960 when she recorded " I'm a Honky Tonk Girl " as her debut single. The song was a minor hit, climbing to #14 on Billboard's C&W Chart. By the late 1960s she had begun picking up various Female Vocalist of the Year trophies and in 1972 the singer became the first woman in history to win the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year trophy. Lynn dominated the Country charts throughout the rest of the decade and has continued to record hit records through the ensuing years. Her 50th anniversary year began with the award of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement on January 31, 2010.
Lynn released over 70 albums. She is the sister of country singer Crystal Gayle (born in Paintsville, Kentucky) and Peggy Sue, and is a cousin of Patty Loveless. Her father was a coal miner in Van Lear. Her biography was made into the 1980 film, Coal Miner's Daughter.
Rose Garden

Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometimes
When you take you gotta give so live and let live or let go
I beg you pardon I never promised you a rose garden
I could promise you things like big diamond rings
But you don't find roses growing on stalks of clover so you'd better think it over
When it's sweet talking you could make it come true
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter but what would it matter
Come along and share the good times while we can
I beg you pardon I never promised you a rose garden
I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon
But if that's what it takes to hold you I'd just as soon let you go
But there's one thing I want you to know
You better look before you leap still water runs deep
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out
And you know what I'm talking about
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
I beg you pardon I never promised you a rose garden
I beg you pardon I never promised you a rose garden
I apologize, but I never guaranteed you a life of ease and happiness
Along with the sunshine there's gotta be a little rain sometimes
In addition to moments of joy, there will inevitably be difficult times
When you take you gotta give so live and let live or let go
To maintain harmony, it is important to both give and take, or else it's better to let go
I could promise you things like big diamond rings
I could make grand gestures, like offering expensive gifts
But you don't find roses growing on stalks of clover so you'd better think it over
However, true beauty doesn't come easily; you should reconsider your expectations
When it's sweet talking you could make it come true
When it comes to sweet words and promises, I could make them a reality
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter but what would it matter
I am willing to give you everything, but ultimately, material possessions are insignificant
So smile for a while and let's be jolly love shouldn't be so melancholy
Let's put on a happy face and enjoy love without dwelling on its hardships
Come along and share the good times while we can
Let's embrace and cherish the joyful moments together, while they last
I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon
I could entertain you with sweet melodies and make extravagant promises
But if that's what it takes to hold you I'd just as soon let you go
However, if I have to resort to such tactics just to keep you, I would rather set you free
But there's one thing I want you to know
Nevertheless, there is something important I want you to understand
You better look before you leap still water runs deep
Be cautious and think carefully before making impulsive decisions because hidden depths can be deceiving
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out
You won't always have someone to rescue you from the consequences of your actions
And you know what I'm talking about
I believe you understand the message I am conveying
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
So let's put on a happy face and enjoy the present moment
I beg you pardon I never promised you a rose garden
Once again, I apologize for not guaranteeing an idyllic and trouble-free life
