Los Palmeras, eh-epa
Tú y yo
Tanto amor sincero, amor eterno
Tanto amor sincero, amor eterno
Perra (Jajaja)
The lyrics to Los Palmeras’ song “Perra” tells a story of a love that was once sincere and eternal but has now come to an end. The singer expresses his hurt and betrayal at how his partner abandoned him without reason, leaving him feeling hurt and hopeless. He compares her actions to that of a dog or a child, showing how he feels so small and insignificant to her.
The use of the word “perra,” or dog in Spanish, throughout the song is a derogatory term used against women. It suggests that the singer sees his partner as unfaithful and unreliable, similar to the negative connotations associated with dogs. The phrase “ojalá te vayas al infierno,” or “I hope you go to hell,” shows his bitterness and resentment towards her.
Despite the hurt and pain, the singer speaks with a sense of empowerment towards the end of the song. He takes control by calling her out on her lies and betrayal, and expresses his own point of view on the situation. He tells her outright that she is a liar and a traitor, and that he will no longer be the victim.
Overall, the lyrics of “Perra” express the complicated and sometimes tumultuous nature of love and relationships, and the hurt and anger that can come with the end of a once beautiful connection.
