El Plebeyo
Los Terricolas Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of Los Terricolas's song "El Plebeyo" highlight the stark contrasts between the upper class and the working class in society. It describes the city streets at night, where people move with a slow pace under the artificial light. However, the shadows hide the truth of hatred, revenge, and betrayal that take place in the darkness. The song follows the story of a plebeian, a working-class man who returns home after a long day at work. Despite his status in life, he knows how to love, and he suffers under the unfairness of the law that favors the aristocracy. He longs for a world where everyone is equal in value and where love is the driving force of society.
The lyrics highlight the message of the singer, who believes that love is a divine and sacred feeling that should be shared by all, regardless of their social status. The plebeian represents the working-class struggle against the aristocracy, where their love cannot flourish because of the societal norms. The song's central theme is the fight for equality and the notion that everyone deserves the same opportunities and chances in life, regardless of their social status.
