Many of the Lost Dogs albums include at least one or two cover songs. Songs covered by the Lost Dogs include Bob Dylan's "Lord, Protect My Child," Leonard Cohen's "If It Be Your Will," The Beatles' "I'm A Loser," and Stephen Foster's "Hard Times Come Again No More." They have also recorded a number of Traditional or Gospel standards such as "Dust On The Bible," and "Farther Along."
In March, 2000, shortly after the release of their Gift Horse album, Gene Eugene died in his sleep at The Green Room, his recording studio in Huntington Beach, California.
2003 saw the release of the band's first DVD, Via Chicago, a black and white concert film released by Lo-Fidelity Records. A follow-up DVD, Via Chicago (All We Left Unsaid), containing additional songs from the concert, was released in 2006.
Although the loss of Eugene is noticeable, the remaining three Lost Dogs members continue to tour and record new albums. In 2004, the band got together with longtime friend Steve Hindalong to produce a special album for their summer tour. The result was entitled Mutt, and included new acoustic versions of nine songs originally written and recorded for each band member's regular rock bands, with one new song. The following year, the band would release one of their most unusual recordings to date, the almost entirely instrumental Island Dreams.
The band's most recent project, Old Angel, was released May 2010. The band — including the newest official "dog," drummer Steve Hindalong — once again hit the road for a national tour in support of their new album.
When The Judgement Comes
Lost Dogs Lyrics

when the judgment comes
Lord, give me a pair of traveling shoes
when the judgment comes
'Cos I ain't got no traveling shoes. Lord said,
I got some pretty good news,
something else that you can use
when the judgment comes.
I'll send a chariot built with nails and wood
when the judgment comes
I'll send a chariot built with nails and wood
when the judgment comes
A horse named grace that I've taught to fly,
He'll by arriving by and by
To take you up yonder past the big blue sky
when the judgment comes.
Lord, give me a coat and a walkin' cane
when the judgment comes
Lord, give me a coat and a walkin' cane
when the judgment comes
'Cos I ain't got no coat and cane.
Lord said, I guess I best explain,
You ain't gonna need a doggone thing
when the judgment comes.
The song "When The Judgement Comes" by Lost Dogs is a song about preparing for the final judgement day. The song begins with the singer requesting a pair of traveling shoes from the Lord when judgement day comes. The singer implies that they do not have any shoes yet, suggesting that they are not fully prepared for judgement day. However, the Lord tells them that they don't need any travel shoes because he will be sending a chariot built with nails and wood, along with a horse named Grace that he's taught to fly to take them to heaven.
In the next verse, the singer requests a coat and a walking cane, but the Lord explains that they won't need those things on judgement day. The song ends with a reminder that on judgement day, people won't need any material possessions as they will be judged based on their deeds. The lyrics in this song suggest that preparing oneself for judgement day is important and that the focus should be on one's deeds and not material possessions.
