Jordan was one of the first black recording artists whose popularity crossed over into the mainstream white audience and who scored hits on both the "race" charts and the mainstream white pop charts. He is now acknowledged as one of the most successful African-American musicians of the 20th century, ranking fifth in the list of the all-time most successful black recording artists.
Jordan scored at least four million-selling hits during his career, regularly topping the "race" charts, as well as scoring simultaneous Top Ten hits on the white pop charts on several occasions. Many of the songs he wrote or co-wrote have become 20th century popular music classics.
With his dynamic Tympany Five bands (which also pioneered the use of electric guitar and electric organ) Jordan largely mapped out the main parameters of the classic R&B, urban blues and early rock'n'roll genres with a series of hugely influential 78 rpm discs for the Decca label that presaged virtually all of the dominant black music styles of the 1950s and 1960s and which exerted a huge influence on many leading performers in these genres.
Fire
Louis Jordan Lyrics

Ain't nobody can save me but you baby
Come on save me baby
Nobody can cool this fire
And I know the reason why
I'm so much in love with you
I can't leave you and I ain't gonna try
Every time I see your face my heart starts burning
Every time I hold your hand, I get that yearning
Every time I call your name, my poor heart bursts out in flame
You're to blame for all this pain and I'm on fire
Nobody can cool this fire
And I know the reason why
I'm so much in love with you
I can't leave you and I ain't gonna try
Holy smokes, I'm gonna tell my folks I'm on fire
Pray .... sugar you're my desire
All my friends are burning too
'Cause I'm scorching over you
Sorry, bless me, what am I gonna do? I'm on fire
Nobody can cool this fire
And I know the reason why
I'm so much in love with you
I can't leave you and I ain't gonna try
Yeah, nobody can cool this fire
And I know the reason why
I love you I love you I love you I love you and I love you until the day I die
Come on baby
Ain't nobody can save you but your baby
Talk to me lover, talk to me baby
Help, Help
Somebody help me
Louis Jordan's song "Fire" is a passionate love song that speaks to the overwhelming flames of love that the singer is feeling towards his partner. The lyrics are vivid in their descriptions, painting a picture of a love that is so intense, it cannot be contained or controlled. The theme of fire is used as a metaphor to represent the uncontrolled passion and desire that the singer feels for his partner, emphasizing how strong and all-consuming love can be.
The opening lines of the song, "Help baby / Ain't nobody can save me but you baby / Come on save me baby" immediately establish the desperate tone of the song. The singer is proclaiming that only his partner can save him from the fiery passion he's feeling, and that he is completely at their mercy. This highlights the powerful effect that love can have on a person, making them vulnerable and dependent on their partner.
The chorus of the song repeats the line "Nobody can cool this fire / And I know the reason why / I'm so much in love with you / I can't leave you and I ain't gonna try", emphasizing the unstoppable nature of the singer's passion. The verse that follows is filled with vivid imagery, describing the physical and emotional reactions that the singer experiences when he's with his partner. He is overcome with burning love every time he sees his partner's face, holds their hand, or even calls their name. This portrays the singer as being completely powerless to resist the passion he feels.
The song concludes with the singer's desperate plea for help. He begs for someone to help him control the fire of his love, but ultimately admits that he can't leave his partner even if he tried. This underscores the fact that love, when it's as intense as the singer's, can be an all-consuming force that cannot be tamed or controlled.
