Hey Man
Love/Hate Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hey man, you got your needs
Hey man, understand
There ain't nobody to hold your hand
When you get home all you got is
Two dead roses in your machine
Hey man, tell the truth
You don't want to go out of your way
Hey man, understand
There ain't nobody to hold your hand
When you get home all you got is
Two dead roses in your machine
Hey man, you wish there was a God
Hey man, tell the truth
You want some, some spirituality
Hey man, understand
There ain't nobody to hold your hand
When you get home all you got is
Two dead roses in your machine
The lyrics to Love/Hate's song Hey Man are addressing a lonely individual who is seeking companionship but struggling to find it. The first verse acknowledges the person's solitude and their innate desires as a human being. The second verse is urging the individual to be honest with themselves about their lack of effort in finding companionship. The third verse recognizes that the individual has a longing for something spiritual or greater than themselves, but they are not sure how to find it.
The repeated chorus, "Hey man, understand, there ain't nobody to hold your hand, when you get home all you got is two dead roses in your machine," conveys the overall theme of isolation and loneliness. The metaphor of the two dead roses in their machine symbolizes the lack of love and affection in the person's life, and the recognition that they can only rely on themselves.
Overall, the song is a poignant portrayal of the struggles faced by those who are alone and yearn for a deeper connection with others and something greater than themselves.
