Tear Ourselves Away embodies a passage of feelings that manifest themselves in a collection of bittersweet and thoughtful tunes. The album tells tales of the desire to run free from inhibitions, being keenly aware of surroundings, fears, desires, and compelling moments of inspiration.
The story of San Francisco’s LoveLikeFire began when two musicians, Ann Yu and David Farrell met at a show while playing in other bands. Their musical chemistry was undeniable, and they soon wrote a handful of songs that would become LoveLikeFire’s first self-released EP, Bed of Gold, immediately capturing the interests of the likes of Deathcab for Cutie, KEXP, Live105, WOXY radio, and MTV.com.
In 2007 they recorded their second EP, An Ocean In The Air, which reached the top 20 in the CMJ charts, the only self-released album among their peers in the group. The band toured across the country self-booking and financing 4 national tours spanning two weeks to two months.
Tear Ourselves Away is set for a UK release August 10, 2009. The single “William” was released digitally March 23, hard copy to be released April 7th.
LoveLikeFire is Ann Yu, David Farrell, Martin Mattern, and Eric Amerman.
Wish You Dead
LoveLikeFire Lyrics

Ask me; I'll tell you a story
About a boy with a love
And another one who can't let go, 'cause
It's quite clear, my dear
Your heart is somewhere near
But not so near
In my mind, we creep into the desert
Just the two of us
And we slide away, into forever
I can't help but wish you dead,
I wish you dead
Sometimes I wish you dead, my friend
Sometimes I wish you dead, my friend
It's not easy to let you ignore me
Ask me; I'll tell you a story
About a boy with a love
And another one who can't let go, 'cause
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/l/lovelikefire/wish_you_dead.html ]
You've been out so long
I am a sweet gone wrong
You're in it for the drama
I'm in it for the love
In the night, I fly into your bedroom
Lay there by your side
And we dream away, into forever
I can't help but wish you dead,
I wish you dead
Sometimes I wish you dead, my friend
Sometimes I wish you dead, my friend
Sometimes I wish you dead, my friend
Sometimes I wish you dead, my friend
You would send me to the wolves
You would send me as a sacrifice
Cut me up and throw me out, that's what you do
I will never look to you with regrets
I will never miss you
I wish you were dead

The lyrics to LoveLikeFire's song "Wish You Dead" describe a complicated relationship where one person is in love with another who cannot let go of something from the past. The chorus of the song repeats the line "I can't help but wish you dead," indicating frustration and resentment on the part of the singer. The first verse describes the situation as "a boy with a love / and another one who can't let go." The singer is clearly the former, while the person they are singing about is the latter. The second verse describes the singer's fantasy of running away with this person into the desert and "slide away, into forever." However, this idealistic picture is sharply juxtaposed with the repetition of the line "I can't help but wish you dead," which points to something darker lurking beneath the surface.
The final verse seems to clarify the singer's feelings. They feel that this other person is only interested in drama, while they are truly in it for the love. The image of flying into their bedroom at night and dreaming away into forever is a romanticized notion, but it is undercut by the chorus, which brings the anger and resentment back to the surface. The final line, "I wish you were dead," drives home the idea that the singer has given up hope for the relationship and wants to move on.
Overall, the lyrics of "Wish You Dead" are bittersweet and conflicted. The singer is torn between their love for this other person and their frustration at not being able to make things work. Though they long for an idealized future with this person, their anger and resentment at the current situation ultimately overpowers their positive feelings.

On certain occasions, I desire that you perish, my comrade
You would send me to the wolves
You would leave me at the mercy of the wolves
You would send me as a sacrifice
You would surrender me as an offering
Cut me up and throw me out, that's what you do
You mutilate me and discard me, that is what you do
I will never look to you with regrets
I will never look back at you with remorse
I will never miss you
I will never feel nostalgic about you
I wish you were dead
I hope you were deceased
