If You
Lovebugs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wish I could understand
Could figure out
What makes me fly
And what makes me fall
It would be so simple
If I could handle
What makes me freeze
And what makes me glow

And now i
Run out of patience
Wanna throw out the window
Things that I can't hold
Just to show you
'cause I'm not interested
To know what I am

In your eyes and your mind
I'm for shure not that one

If you want to carry me
You can always do that
If you if you if you want
Watch out I'll be heavy

I wish I could understand
Could figure out
What makes me sink
What makes me rise
It would be so simple
If I could handle

What makes it pointless
What makes it whole

Overall Meaning

The Lovebugs song If You is a reflection on the human experience of trying to understand the complexities of one's own emotions and motivations. The first verse describes a desire to understand the things that make us feel good and the things that make us feel bad, and how these emotions can be at odds with each other. The second verse expresses frustration with this struggle and a desire to simply act, to throw caution to the wind and let things happen, rather than trying to analyze and understand every feeling and impulse. The chorus suggests that the singer feels misunderstood by someone they care about, and that they themselves can't figure out who they really are, adding to the confusion and uncertainty.

This video answered more questions than the title suggested and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you for educating me on these little insects that flooded my early life.

We've got you covered!

@University of Central Florida Haha, I see what you did there!

I drove through this across Mississippi and into Louisiana - that plaster of insect car splatter was unimaginable. Visibility was similar to volcanic or brush fire ash (experienced both)…just a dark haze of density at all levels.

I grew up in Northwest Florida and I'm used to love bugs. It was just a few years ago that I first heard of the UF's genetically modified experiment gone wrong myth. I never bought that load of crap because if that was the case, then the bugs would've been colored blue and orange instead of black and orange. 🤣

My daughter just asked me what kind of bug it was as I politely batting it/them away. I grew up seeing them in Texas and thanks to her asking me ,this is the first time I ever researched them. But I have always knew they were Love 🐛's.

What does research suggest the negative impacts would be if the love bug population were to be halved? It sounds as if they contribute a lot to gemerating healthy soil; but how was Florida soil comparatively faring prior to their arrival?

I suppose the relevant Q is what the impact would be currently. Times have changed and with them environmental factors and compositions.

Awesome video, I'm new to FL and had a lot of questions about this bug.

Glad we could teach you a thing or two! They're starting to make their way back!
