The Best Is Yet To Come
Luba Lyrics

The Best Is Yet To Come (Luba) released on 9 1/2 Weeks soundtrack 1986
When love's astray
There's nothing you can do about it
But who can say?
I won't be better off without it
I might be down
But don't count me out
There's a world
I want to know all about
You can say I'm just dreaming
I've always been an optimistic one
I can't help feeling
That the best is yet to come
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
There comes a time
Ain't nothing you can do to stop it
Right now is mine
I'm gonna make the best time of it
Don't hold your breath
If you're waiting for me
Today is just
Tomorrow's history
Repeat chorus
You say I'm being foolish
Well, maybe that's so
But I'm not afraid
Of letting go...
There's nothing you can do about it
(Hey Hey) I know you'll say
I won't be better off without it
I'm gonna take
My heart off the shelf
I made a promise
To be good to myself
Repeat chorus
The best is yet come
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Best is yet to come
Oh, oh

Oh, oh
Repeat and fade

Overall Meaning

In Luba's song, The Best Is Yet To Come, the singer addresses the theme of moving past a difficult situation, in this case, a lost relationship. Luba acknowledges the pain that comes with lost love, offering that there's nothing one can do about it when it happens. However, in the same breath, she says that she won't be better off without it. This may suggest that she has learnt something from the relationship - an experience that will guide her towards a better one in the future.

In the second verse, Luba speaks of seizing the day and making the best of the present moment. She offers that one cannot stop time, so it's important to make the most of it. Luba then offers that she'll make a promise to herself to be good to herself, ending with the chorus, "I can't help feeling that the best is yet to come." In essence, despite the challenges and setbacks she's experienced, Luba maintains an optimistic outlook of what the future holds, which could be a far better experience than the past.

Pabzmusic

Great to finally see the face of this singer. This was my favorite song from the 9 1/2 weeks soundtrack. I always thought the singer was an African American lady because of her soulful strong voice and the writer of this song wrote some great songs for Tina Turner that had a similar style and instrumentation.

The Magic Entertainer

Oh yes I own the 9 1/2 weeks soundtrack and the movie
