I stayed too long or I left too soon
Drapes are drawn
On my sad little throne
Some lines were crossed
In our warm borrowed room
And all sweet illusions were gone
One more drink, the bottle's empty
One more word, the deed is done
One bad move out of many
One more war won't be won
Our best work
We've done our part
Our hopeless dreams
Of an open heart
It's getting late
Let's go to bed
It's all been played
And it's all been said
After the actors left our party
And all sweet illusions were gone
One more drink, the bottle's empty
One more word, the deed is done
One bad move out of many
One more war won't be won
Once again, all alone
I stayed too long or I left too soon
The song "Once Again" by Luciana Souza is a melancholic ballad about the aftermath of a party, where the singer reflects on the end of a relationship. The repeated phrase "once again" suggests that this is not the first time the singer has found themselves in this situation - feeling alone and regretful. The first stanza sets the scene, with the singer sitting on their "sad little throne," surrounded by closed curtains and memories of the room that they once shared with their partner. The lines being crossed hint at a disagreement or betrayal that has led to the breakdown of the relationship.
The second stanza reflects on the fleeting nature of the party and the illusions that it created. Once the actors have left and the alcohol is gone, the singer is left with their thoughts and regrets. The repeated phrase "one more" suggests that the singer is aware of the cumulative effect of their actions - one more drink, one more word, one more bad move, and one more war that won't be won. The final stanza brings the song full circle, with the singer once again alone and unsure whether they stayed too long or left too soon. The repetition of the opening stanza reinforces the sense of circularity and the futility of trying to rewrite the past.
Overall, "Once Again" is a poignant reflection on the end of a relationship and the sense of loss and regret that can follow. The sparse instrumentation and gentle melody allow the lyrics to shine through, creating an intimate and haunting atmosphere.
