Despite recording only in Spanish, he continued to be the best selling Latin artist in the 1990s, and was credited for popularizing the bolero genre into the mainstream market. He has sold around 60 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling Latin music artists.
Latin pop music, along with his personal life and showmanship on stage, has made Luis Miguel popular for nearly his entire career, which started in Mexico in 1982. Having won his first Grammy Award at the age of fourteen for his duet "Me Gustas Tal Como Eres" with Sheena Easton, he is the youngest male artist in music history to have received this accolade. In 1991, the RIAA recognized the high sales for his 1991 album Romance, itself being the third best-selling music album in Mexico, and one of the best-selling Spanish language albums of all time. He was the first Latin artist to have been awarded two Platinum certified Spanish-language albums in the United States with ‘‘Romance’’ and ‘‘Segundo Romance’’ the latter earning him 35 platinum records throughout Central and South America. He is also recognized by Billboard, as the artist with the most top 10 hits on the Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart. His album Complices was released in 2008 and peaked at No.10 on the Billboard 200; it is the highest position a fully Spanish composed album has reached. His most recent album ¡México Por Siempre! was released in 2017, and it earned him his second No. 1 on the Billboard Regional Mexican Albums and achieved double platinum status.
Luis Miguel is also known for his high-grossing live performances. He is the first-highest grossing Latin touring artist since Boxscore began tracking touring data in 1990, with a towering total of $278.5 million. With the Luis Miguel Tour, which took place in 2010, he visited 22 countries in North America, South America and Europe, where he performed in a three-year span with a total of 223 shows all over the world, making it the longest and highest-grossing tour ever made by a Latin artist. He also holds the record for the most consecutive presentations in the Auditorio Nacional (National Auditorium) with a total of 30 consecutive concerts as well as the record for the most presentations in the same venue with a total of 258 concerts.
Palabra De Honor
Luis Miguel Lyrics

Una calle sin salida y yo, woh o oh
Tanto tiempo en el intento
Tanto tonto cuento entre tú y yo, woh o oh
Corazón ¿dónde estuviste?
Va rodando triste y sin amor
Palabra de honor
Paloma perdida
Ya no puedo más
Te tengo que olvidar
Y te tengo que olvidar
Esos sábados eternos
Con tu cara en mi cuaderno y yo
Viendo yo llover por la ventana
Otra mañana sin mañana y yo
Tu sonrisa transparente
Me hace burla lentamente, amor
Te voy a olvidar
¡Palabra de honor!
Paloma perdida
Ya no puedo más
Te tengo que olvidar
Y te tengo que olvidar
Te tengo que olvidar
¡Palabra de honor!
Te tengo que olvidar
Te tengo que olvidar
Te tengo que olvidar
Te tengo que olvidar
The lyrics to Luis Miguel's song Palabra De Honor tell a story of heartbreak and failed attempts at love. The persona speaks about the beginning of their life, narrating a situation where they feel stuck in a dead-end street with no way out. They reflect on the time they spent trying to make their relationship work, only to be met with disappointment and disillusionment. The persona then addresses their heart, which they believe has been absent from their attempts at love, leaving them alone and melancholic.
The chorus of the song echoes the persona's desire to move on from their past love. They promise, with a "palabra de honor" (word of honor), that they will forget their lost love, who is symbolized by a perdida paloma (a lost dove). The persona's insistence that they have to forget the lost love speaks to the pain they have experienced and their need to move on from the disappointment.
The verse that follows the chorus reminisces on the happy moments the persona shared with their lost love. They remembered the Saturdays they spent together, with the lover's image in their notebook. However, they now see everything with a different perspective, as they contemplate a life without their lost love. They feel they cannot endure the pain anymore and, with that word of honor, vow to forget and move on.
Overall, "Palabra De Honor" is a song about heartbreak, loss, and moving on. The lyrics detail a relationship that did not work and the persona's wish to forget and start anew. It is a profoundly emotional song that translates the feelings of lost love and the pain of breaking up.
