Sital-Singh was brought up in the small south west London town of New Malden, birthplace of folk legend John Martyn. The youngest of 3 brothers, Luke’s parents encouraged their sons to pick up musical instruments. Piano, saxophone, guitar and the flute were all part of the Sital-Singh ensemble with Luke taking up the violin at age 11. After picking up his brothers guitar, he has never looked back.
The ever compelling and emotionally captivating young songwriter has his roots in an eclectic mix of songsmiths both young and old, from Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Joni Mitchell to Damien Rice, Josh Ritter and Tallest Man On Earth. Though a new artist and relatively unexposed, he has already established himself within BBC’s Introducing arena, gaining him a slot at Glastonbury 2010.
Luke released his debut album, The Fire Inside, in August 2014. http://lukesitalsingh.com/
Honest Man

So we can live this upside down
It’s hard now for an honest man
Is that what I am?
An honest man?
You're the kind who seems
Too beautiful and out of reach
I'm in
I've got you underneath my skin
To look away is getting hard
Maybe we could just let go
Say 'Yes' when the signs say 'No'
Breathe in
Lean to kiss your lips
Then my eyes eclipse
And it all goes dark
You're the kind who seems
Too beautiful and out of reach
For me
I'm in
I've got you underneath my skin
I fall apart to look away is getting hard
You're the kind who seems
Too beautiful and out of reach
For me
I'm in
I've got you underneath my skin
I fall apart to look away is getting hard
Maybe we could just let go
Say 'Yes' when the signs say 'No'
Breathe in
Lean to kiss your lips
Then my eyes eclipse
And it all goes dark
The lyrics of Luke Sital-Singh's song "Honest Man" seem to be grappling with the complexity of romantic relationships. The singer acknowledges his own honesty and perhaps even his own limitations in pursuing love. He wonders if he is an "honest man" and seems to be struggling to reconcile his desire for this person, who seems "too beautiful and out of reach," with his own sense of integrity. He recognizes that it is hard for someone like him, who values honesty, to navigate the murky waters of love.
The chorus repeats the idea that this person is too beautiful and out of reach for him, but he also can't look away. He has her "underneath [his] skin." In the second verse, he becomes more specific about his desires, suggesting that maybe they could "just let go" and ignore the signs pointing to a non-viable relationship. He wants to "breathe in" and "lean to kiss [her] lips," but he also acknowledges that it all might "go dark."
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of vulnerability and struggle, as the singer grapples with his own desires and limitations in the pursuit of love. It's a theme that is likely to resonate with many people who have experienced the complexities of romantic relationships.
