Amsterdam
Luminary Lyrics

Underground or airplane
Doesn't matter in the end
I know it has to be this way
You're leaving me again

So I'll write my little love song
And I'll sing it to the wind
'Cause you're out there on the road tonight
London, New York, Amsterdam

I'm lonely here without you
Miss your breath against my skin
You love me then you leave me still I lie here
Pressing fingers, where your kisses have been
And I miss you
And I miss you
And I miss you

And I'll miss you
And I miss you
And I miss you

Know that I should be in bed
It's almost 3 AM
But when I close my eyes I can only see miles of headlights
Fleshing out the distance

Yes I know that it's been calling to you
London, New York, Amsterdam

So I'll sing my little lonely songs

So I'll write my little love song
And I'll sing it to the wind
'Cause you're out there on the road tonight
London, New York, Amsterdam

And I miss you
And I miss you
And I miss you

And I'll miss you
And I miss you
And I miss you

And I miss you

And I miss you
And I miss you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Luminary's song "Amsterdam" convey a sense of longing and loneliness felt by someone who is left behind as their loved one embarks on another journey. The opening lines, "Underground or airplane, doesn't matter in the end. I know it has to be this way, you're leaving me again," suggest that this is a recurring situation where the singer's partner is always on the move, and they are left behind, possibly feeling uncertain or frustrated about the situation. Despite this, the singer takes solace in music and writes a love song that they sing to the wind, with the hope that their partner might somehow hear it.

As the song progresses, we get a glimpse into the singer's inner world, where they express their yearning for their partner's touch, while at the same time acknowledging that they will have to endure another night alone. The imagery of "pressing fingers, where your kisses have been" creates a sense of emotional intensity, further accentuated by the repetition of the phrase "And I miss you" throughout the song. The singer also acknowledges that their partner is drawn to cities like London, New York, and Amsterdam, and their calling to adventure is undeniable.

Overall, "Amsterdam" is a hauntingly beautiful song that speaks to the universal experience of separation and longing. The lyrics are evocative and poetic, while the melody is bittersweet and melancholy, capturing the complexity of human emotions in a poignant and relatable way.

@ganeshvadcar8098

I was in 7th GRADE (2007) I had asked my friend to share some Good house and trance Music on my CD-RW, the next day he gave it to me,

I returned back home quickly from school, and started to play the music on my Dad's JVC HiFi DAC System, and to my surprise most of the trance collection in that CD-RW were so good that I skipped my evening play time, and also those were my First Trance collection back in the days,

and it was at this moment when I heard "Luminary - Amsterdam (Smith & Pledger Remix)" after listening to prev tracks for hours, I was hooked, I played the same track on repeat for at least 10x, ever since that day this track has been, and it will always be my most favorite Trance tunes of all time, I still have the CD-RW copy with me today,

this track is Pure Nostagia and feel good Anthem.

This track was much ahead of it's time and even today.

@Pat Oswald Shadows Movement and Together are Anjunadeep so you can take them out ; )

For what it's worth, mine are:

1. Tranquility Base - Buzz (Buzztalk Mix)
2. Oliver Smith - Nimbus
3. Maor Levi - Shapes (Oliver Smith Remix)
4. Signalrunners - Electric Sheep (Nitrous Oxide Remix)
5. A&B - Good For Me or Home (Club Mixes)

I really can't choose between the last two! Both are incredible. Good For Me slightly more melodic yet Home is more euphoric. Really tough.

What an era this was. The greatest, nothing gets near this, nothing. Emotion, feels, uplifting, vocals to die for. I miss it so much.

@irufushi5998

Should add, tracks that weren’t rushed, not 3 mins long with a wee build up and some crappy drop then ends a minute later. This era was 6 mins plus and was perfect.

@Besaid_

glad to know there are others who remember this era of trance and feel similar to how I do. nothing compares and it was trance in it's rawest form. it really bothers me when people use the label trance nowadays as it's nothing like it was before

@Boutros6
