Follow the Word
Mбire Brennan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Follow the hope
Follow the dream
Willing to meet
Willing to go
Willing to share
Still grey skies will turn to blue
Hidden stories on winding roads
I trust Your ways
Is Tú mo Dhia, is Tu tá lán
Do ghrá inniú domh
Is Tú mo Dhia, is Tu tá lán
Do ghrá inniú domh
Follow the Word (Your action)
Follow the hope (Your vision)
Follow the dream (You gave to me)
Willing to meet (the answer)
Willing to go (the journey)
Willing to share (my love for You)
You sent from the heavens
All that's precious from above
Your breath from the heavens
I will cherish all Your love
Sailing out in gathered haze
Calling gently a new way
This banner of hope
Mбire Brennan's song "Follow the Word" is an uplifting and inspirational piece that touches upon the themes of hope, faith, and trust. The song's opening lines encourage the listener to follow the Word, hope, and dreams, while being willing to meet, go, and share. It suggests that by following these positive principles, we can turn gray skies into blue and overcome any obstacles that come our way. The chorus reinforces this message, urging the listener to take action, pursue their vision, and be ready to embrace the journey.
The following verse contains a stanza in Irish Gaelic that translates to "You are my God, you are full of love for me today." This emphasizes the spiritual aspect of the song, and underscores the idea that faith and love go hand in hand. The bridge then describes how God has sent down precious gifts from the heavens, and how cherished these are by the singer. The final stanza ties everything together, describing the journey ahead as a voyage through a gathered haze, and reiterating the hope and inspiration that comes from this banner.
Overall, "Follow the Word" is a song that encourages the listener to remain optimistic and keep moving forward, no matter what challenges they may face. It's a message of hope, faith, and love, wrapped up in a beautiful mix of English and Irish Gaelic vocals and a gentle acoustic melody.

lyrics--
A wall strong in numbers
Burns the midnight candle
The brave arm in arm
Stands before them now
Up against the wind
Old ways up against the wind
The game is in their hands
Calling out the color
Togetherness, their courage
Recognize the power
Make a stand before them
Old ways follows the beaten track
Against the wind
Against the wind
Defying their leaders
Holding out for free will
The strong dare to echo
Nothing can stop
Nothing can stop us now
Up against the wind
Old ways up against the wind
The game is in your hands
Reach for every moment
In rising generations
Capturing the change
Make a stand before them
Old ways follows the beaten track
Against the wind..

A great, sadly overlooked album, and deserving of more praise and attention. Maire (backed by her sisters) sings with an empowered, raw emotional edge that conveys a hard-fought wisdom and a strength to persevere.

I played this for a group of black blues musicians at an after hours party in Seattle, blew them away. Couldn't believe the depth, range and sheer power of vocals and instrumentation. Opened their eyes and minds a bit that night. Like, yeah, dude, Irish can KICK IT!

This track is fantastic. The drums sound absolutely amazing!

Hipnotic energy. I'm not irish but I can sense the power of the simplicity in Maire's music. Thanks Maire and Clannad, forever in my mental jukebox.

Maybe you were never up against the wind... and I think you’re missing the point slightly anyway. Struggle is a necessary part of life. ... the song is a motif for many situations and can be read across a multitude of narratives. Personally it speaks to me and makes me feel good. On the other hand some ‘peace’ advocates I’ve encountered have turned out to be the most controlling / naive people I’ve ever met.

This song makes me want to fight the good fight. Damn, this is empowering as hell.
