If You Could Read My Mind
M.C. Sar & The Real McCoy Lyrics

If you could read my mind love what a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie bout a ghost from a wishing well
In a cast the dark or a fortress strong with chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free as long as I'm a ghost that you can't see

If I could read your mind love what a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel the kind that drug stores sell
When you reached the part where the heartaches start
The hero would be me but heroes often fail
You won't read that book again because the ending's just too hard to take

I'd walk away like a movie star who gets burned in a three way script enter No 2
A movie queen kkep to play the scene of bringin' all the good things out of me
But for now love let's be real
I never thought I could act this way and I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong but the feelin' is gone and I just can't get it back

If you could read my mind love what a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie bout a ghost from a wishing well
In a cast the dark or a fortress strong with chains upon my feet
But stories always end

And If you read between the lines you'd know that I'm just trying to understand
The feelin's that you lack

I'd never thought I could feel this way and I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong but the feelin' is gone and I just can't get it back

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "If You Could Read My Mind" by M.C. Sar & The Real McCoy reflect themes of unspoken emotions, misunderstandings, and the complexities of relationships. The singer expresses a longing for their thoughts and feelings to be understood by their love interest. The opening lines, "If you could read my mind love what a tale my thoughts could tell," convey a desire for deeper connection and communication in the relationship, likening their thoughts to a story waiting to be revealed.

The reference to an "old time movie 'bout a ghost from a wishing well" paints a picture of a haunting past or unresolved emotions that continue to linger. The imagery of being trapped in a fortress with chains on their feet symbolizes the feeling of being stuck in a situation or emotion that they cannot escape from. The mention of being a ghost that cannot be seen suggests a sense of invisibility or being misunderstood by the other person.

The lyrics also touch upon the theme of unfulfilled expectations and roles within a relationship. The singer envisions themselves as a hero in a story that ends in heartache, hinting at a sense of disillusionment and disappointment in not living up to expectations. The reference to walking away "like a movie star who gets burned in a three-way script" speaks to the complexities and pain of love triangles or complicated relationships.

As the song progresses, the singer acknowledges their own confusion and inability to comprehend the breakdown of their relationship. They express disbelief at the loss of connection and the difficulty in finding the way back to what once was. The repeated refrain of not understanding where things went wrong and the feeling being gone reflects a sense of helplessness and longing for clarity and reconciliation.

Ultimately, the lyrics convey a sense of longing, introspection, and a struggle to make sense of the complicated emotions and dynamics within a relationship. The singer grapples with feelings of being unseen, unheard, and unfulfilled, yearning for understanding and connection that seems elusive. The song captures the bittersweet nature of love and the challenges of navigating the complexities of the human heart.

@@LuisRomero-ru8hk Ooh among all genres it's a bit difficult but I would name:

-Magic Affair - "Omen III" (probably my most favorite song EVER)

-The Outfield - "Your love"
(That song is sooooo damn good and iconic of the 80s sound)

-The Offspring - "Self Esteem"
(The song that made me hooked to the Offspring, I like almost all their songs)

-Michael Jackson - "Smooth Criminal"
(MJ stays an absolutely exceptional 1 in a billion talent artist who influenced and advanced pop and music business in general in multiple ways up to this day)

It's a tough call but all these songs are so super outstanding in their respective genres and eras up until today. At least for me.
But there are a ton of other songs that come close.
Maybe you've just inspired me for some Peter's best of playlists :D

@@davis1744 Agreed! The 90s had some good music. There was another band named "No Mercy" with a song named "Where do you go?". It is so beautiful.
