Trouble is keepin' quiet and you know well where your heart goes
Troubles with meeting anybody, these days are bringing you down
All predisposed to believe in, in a wolf who wears sheep's clothes
Yeah
Don't let the world outside the windowpane get to your head
Hopefully make some sense of all this shit before you're dead
All predisposed to believe in, in a wolf who wears sheep's clothes
Yeah
At its core, "A Wolf Who Wears Sheeps Clothes" by Mac DeMarco is a song about the complexities of trying to navigate life's challenges while maintaining a positive outlook. The first verse expresses the difficult balance between trying to stay positive while also acknowledging the darker aspects of life, such as the proverbial shadow that can be cast even while trying to keep things light. The second line of the verse speaks to the challenge of keeping silent about one's true feelings when one's heart is pulling in a different direction.
Moving on to the chorus, the song speaks to the universal experience of feeling let down by others and struggling to connect with people in a meaningful way. This feeling of isolation is compounded by the fact that people tend to be predisposed to believe in those who appear perfect on the surface, like the titular wolf in sheep's clothing. The second verse then urges the listener to not let external forces get to them, and to try to make sense of things before it's too late.
Overall, the song strikes a balance between acknowledging the darker aspects of life while also urging listeners to remain positive and not give up hope, even in the face of difficult times.
