Career
Mac Dre's music gained popularity in the early to mid 1990s throughout the Bay Area, eventually receiving national recognition through his independent record labels Romp and Thizz Entertainment. He released many hit singles, such as "Too Hard for the Radio", and most recently "Feelin' Myself". He was the creator of the "Thizzle Dance", a popular dance which holds no specific standard. Hardship and controversy were staples of Mac Dre's career. After recording his first three albums between 1989 and 1991, Mac was charged with conspiracy to commit bank robbery. His record label, Romp Productions, and his many references to "Romper Room" in his songs, coincided with a Vallejo robbery gang of the time calling themselves the "Romper Room Gang" and responsible for the robberies of many area banks and pizza parlours. Hicks was alleged to be a member of the gang. The rapper was sentenced to five years in prison in 1992.
In prison, Hicks gained some notoriety by recording the lyrics to songs directly over the Fresno County jail inmate telephone. His album, Young Black Brotha, was a result of such efforts, as well as guest appearances on fellow artists' songs, all while Hicks was still imprisoned. A later album, Back 'N Da Hood, was also made up of these prison-recorded songs.
After his release from prison in 1996, Mac Dre began releasing albums steadily, building pace in the early 21st century. Mac Dre's audience was growing, and mainstream hip-hop stations were beginning to give Hicks' music more airtime. Hicks relocated to Sacramento, California in 2001, where he began a label, Thizz Entertainment.
Death
On November 1, 2004, Mac Dre was shot to death while returning to his hotel after a performance in Kansas city. A car pulled up next to the white van carrying Dre along with other Thizz artists. Whether words where exchanged or not, the ordeal ended in the bloodshed of a bay area rap legend. The van swerved off the road and into a ravine where it ran into a tree. Word is that Dre was thrown from the van, but officials say they found him in the front seat, dead on arrival. Some believe that Mac Dre's killer was Kansas City rapper Anthony "Fat Tone" Watkins. In 2005 Watkins was murdered, allegedly by Bay Area rapper Mac Minister. In March 2006, Mac Minister was arrested by FBI officials.

You can′t have no one else
I want you for myself
You can't have no one else
See I′m a cold pole cat, hope she know that.
Shitty off da titty and dope as Prozac, Spit da anthrax, Leave a dent in your brain.
Please believe ain't no cuffing me, Mang, fuck a dame.
Wanna get wit me, let her dough get wit me.
Keep da big heads crispy, ducking it up.
I do da dirt then I'm fucking it up.
Bitch what da fuck is you hollerin,
Bitch check your noggin.
Fore I pull out da pecker, And Peck at your noggin.
Shit don′t go for that
Check da skully wit da cutty off. Dosha sacks... Forty racks.
I′m not da average dude although I'm digging you.
I can′t be tied down now I deal in hoe's and brew.
Money is all I need, a backwood and a bag of trees. (Bag of trees)
P-I-M-P is me your wildest dreams between da sheets.
I got to have my dough, You know what I′m here fo'.
You got to break mines off, like I do you when I′m wit you.
On Cutty Bangs and Smirnoff we'll do da thing and I'll show off.
I can′t be locked down now, that′s not how I get down.
Dat bitch is fatal,
Plus she play all day like cable.
I'm a pimp baby, I run a stable,
I got H-O E-S′s.
High heels and cold gear is how she dresses.
You too skrilla and I'm a true playa.
You looking for a cuddle up, a Poo Bear.
I need a bitch that′s gonna Move some work.
Do some dirt, she can't then, I ain′t goosing her.
I'm using her for her cards and her credit.
She's breaded, super unleaded,
Super saucy, Super what you not.
You need a man who ain′t tripping off what you got.
I′m too much Neezy... 4 one Beezy. Plus, I like my nachos cheesy.
That one on one shit, I can't go for that.
I′m laid up with three bitches smoking fat.
I want you for myself,(4 Myself)
You can't have no one else.(No 1 Else)
I want you for myself,
You can′t have no one else.
In the song "4 Myself" by Mac Dre, the lyrics explore themes of independence, asserting personal freedom, and maintaining a player lifestyle. The first few lines express a desire to possess someone exclusively, emphasizing that they cannot be shared or claimed by anyone else. This could be interpreted as the singer's longing for a committed and exclusive romantic relationship.
The following lines suggest the singer's confidence and self-assuredness. Describing oneself as a "cold pole cat" implies a cool and composed demeanor. The reference to being "shitty off da titty and dope as Prozac" conveys a carefree and intoxicating attitude. The phrase "spit da anthrax, leave a dent in your brain" paints a picture of the singer's impactful presence and ability to leave a lasting impression.
The lyrics also touch on the singer's resistance to getting too attached or "cuffed" by someone. This could suggest a fear of commitment or a preference for maintaining personal freedom. The mention of "keeping the big heads crispy" implies the singer's focus on accumulating wealth and success, likely as a means to maintain their independent lifestyle.
The following section highlights the singer's confidence in their ability to attract and engage with multiple partners. They describe themselves as not being an average person and engaging in casual relationships without attachments. This reinforces the idea of the singer's independence and prioritization of personal pleasure and material gains.
The lyrics continue with the singer expressing their preference for a certain type of partner. They desire someone who is willing to engage in illegal activities like moving drugs, as well as being financially well-off. This could signify the singer's attraction to a certain lifestyle and their willingness to exploit others for personal gain.
The final lines of the song reiterate the desire for exclusive possession of someone. The repetition of "I want you for myself" reaffirms the singer's longing for a committed and exclusive relationship, contradicting their previous claims of independence and playing the field.
Overall, the lyrics of "4 Myself" by Mac Dre portray a complex persona who desires both personal freedom and exclusivity in relationships. It explores themes of independence, materialism, and the allure of a player lifestyle.
