Over The Hill
Machiavel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can see some men walking in town
And I can hear them talking just like fools
And they just walk in their dreams
And they just go with the stream
But they’d better look at what ‘s real
So they will see over the hill
And they can bring to their sides
So many light in the night
And they can bring to their sides
So many joys in their life
I can see some kids running in town .
And they just keep on playing the game
And they just walk in their dreams
And they just go with the stream
But they ‘D better look at what ‘s real
So they will see over the hill
And they can bring to their sides
So many lights in the night
And they can bring to their sides
So many joys in their life

I can see some people made like men
And they wonder why they all look the same

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Machiavel's song Over The Hill bring out the idea of people living life in their own illusions, failing to see the reality which is the only way to happiness. The first verse describes men in the town who are walking and talking mindlessly like fools, living in their own dreams and flowing with the current without any direction. The singer believes that they need to open their eyes and face the reality, as only then will they be able to achieve true success.

The second verse talks about kids running around in town, continuously playing their game and enjoying life. They too, however, have not seen the world beyond their own imagination, and the singer suggests that they too need to look at what's real and see "over the hill". This message of not being satisfied with the present happiness, and striving for something more, is a prevalent theme in the song.

Finally, the third verse talks about people who look and act like men, but are unable to identify and celebrate their own individuality. They all look the same, living life as if they are programmed robots. This verse serves as a warning to not give up our uniqueness while conforming with society.

Overall, the lyrics of the song highlight the importance of living life on our own terms and not simply coasting along with the status quo. The message of accepting reality and finding our own path to happiness is beautifully conveyed in the song.
