1) Magnum is an English hard rock band. They were formed in Birmingham by Tony Clarkin (guitar, songwriter, RIP) and Bob Catley (vocals) in order to appear as the resident band at the Rum Runner nightclub in the city. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of Catley and Clarkin remain.
Magnum's most significant early success was Chase the Dragon in 1982, which reached number 17 in the UK Albums Chart. It included several songs that would become mainstays of the band's live set, notably "Soldier of the Line", "Sacred Hour" and "The Spirit". On a Storyteller's Night gave the band its breakthrough in Europe, and achieved a Gold certification in the United Kingdom. The band's 1986 album Vigilante represented a further move towards the mainstream before the band achieved their commercial peak in 1988 when they entered the UK Top Ten for the first time with the album Wings of Heaven, which reached number five and featured three Top 40 singles, "Days of No Trust", "Start Talking Love" and "It Must Have Been Love". It was followed by Goodnight L.A., which was produced by Keith Olsen and reached number nine in the UK Album Chart in 1990. It produced another Top 40 single for the band, "Rockin' Chair".
In 1995, Clarkin announced Magnum's split; however, Clarkin and Catley continued working together, now under the name Hard Rain, until 1999. Magnum reformed in 2001 and has enjoyed late-career commercial success. Their most recent album, The Monster Roars, was released in January 2022.

Cry
Magnum Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No direction, almost lost
there`s a hurricane blowin` around this old world
On these cruel seas, we get tossed
Here we go
Constitution, words of passion
Revolution from the past
Time is runnin`, runnin` fast
Oh I don`t know, no
Take me down
The lyrics of Magnum's song Cry depict a sense of hopelessness and despair as the lead singer laments about the struggles of life. The opening lines suggest that life is tough for the poor, who are always waiting for something good to happen, and have no clear direction. The metaphor of a hurricane blowing around the world reinforces the idea that life is turbulent and unpredictable.
The next line "Here we go" is like a precursor to the chorus and sets the tone for the rest of the song. The second verse continues the theme of struggle with a reference to the Constitution and past revolutions. The dogs howling outside the window could be a metaphor for the challenges and evil forces that lurk beyond the walls of our homes. The line "time is running, running fast" suggests that life is slipping away, and there is little time to make a positive change.
The chorus "Oh, I don't know, no. Take me down" feels like a surrender to the hardships of life. The use of repetition in the chorus creates a feeling of helplessness and resignation. The lyrics of the song Cry evoke a sense of sadness and isolation, but the powerful instrumentation and emotive vocals bring an uplifting quality to the song.
