3.) Magog were a Swiss jazz sextet. Their music embraced the avant-garde, fusion and free improvisation and they were popular throughout festival circuit in Europe. They released two albums in the 1970s. A live record and followed by a studio recording on ECM's JAPO records. The song "König Aus Frankenland" by Magog tells the story of a famous king named Karl from the region of Franconia (Frankenland) who was known for his Christian faith and nobleness. Karl went out to spread the eternal religion, and he did not tolerate violence and crime. He was supported by the clergy and had no undeserved reputation. The king rode out to fight the warriors, fearlessly carrying his sword and lance. He first fought for the culture and then for the people, crushing the belief of Armimsukn (likely a reference to a pagan deity or practice).
The king next travelled to the Externsteine, a series of rock formations in Germany believed by some to have religious significance. Here, he aimed to unite Jesus with the world. God's love had once again prevailed, but the shame associated with the battles as well as the king's honor would be remembered for a long time. The song ultimately declares that this pride and devotion to the heroes will always guide them.
