One Life
Mahara Mc Kay Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
How can they think of no other man
Chop chop there goes, our chance of
giving the others a chance!
They try to keep the truth from me
Hiding the facts that we all see
Behind their lies they try
| No one said, that it would be easy,
| To try... TRY, TRY... and change.
When will we use, good common sense
to go where no other man went
taking the life apart from all
| No one said, that it would be easy,
| To try... TRY, TRY... and change
The first few lines of Mahara Mc Kay’s “One Life” express a sense of confusion and betrayal. The singer questions where certain individuals go to clear their heads and why they seem to have no regard for others. The line “Chop chop there goes, our chance of giving the others a chance!” seems to imply a sense of urgency and missed opportunities. Coupled with the lines “They try to keep the truth from me/Hiding the facts that we all see,” it appears as if the singer feels like they are being left in the dark and as if there are secrets being kept from them that everyone else seems to know of.
The song is also a call to action, as the singer urges society to use common sense and take life apart from all others. The line “When will we use good common sense/to go where no other man went” denotes a sense of frustration regarding the state of the world and a longing for something better. The repeated refrain “No one said that it would be easy/To try…TRY, TRY…and change” carries a sense of hopefulness in that there is the recognition that change is difficult but worth striving towards.
