Just As I Am
Major League Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What it takes to be a man
Do I fit your image yet?
Is this really who I am?
Am I someone you'll forget?

I should've died while I was young
It's a shame
That my name
Carries weight here
Bad blood between us dried out
I'll play safe
To save face
Just as I am

Jesus Christ won't understand
Feel the scars inside my hands
I once was lost now I'm found
Sinners, saints are all the same

I should've died while I was young
It's a shame
That my name
Carries weight here
Bad blood between us dried out
I'll play safe
To save face
Just as I am

I'd die a thousand times
Over to feel alive
I lost faith in you before I was ready
I blame the father, son

The church and holy Ghost
But mainly myself for all the way I turned out

Overall Meaning

The song "Just As I Am" by Major League revolves around the theme of self-doubt and external expectations that can hinder one's self-awareness. The opening lines, "What it takes to be a man, do I fit your image yet?" depicts the pressure that a person goes through to meet the societal standards of masculinity. The conflict between one's true identity and the image that society wants them to fit in can lead to a sense of discord and frustration. The lyrics, "Is this really who I am? Am I someone you'll forget?" conveys the fear of being insignificant and unnoticed, further highlighting the importance of self-discovery and acceptance.

The following lines, "I should have died while I was young. It's a shame that my name carries weight here," reveals regret and guilt that stems from previous decisions. However, the sense of guilt and regret is amplified by the external factors that come with reputation and carries weight. The lines, "Bad blood between us dried out, I'll play safe, to save face, just as I am," underscores the importance of concealing one's true self to appease others and to avoid conflict.

The lines, "Jesus Christ won't understand, feel the scars inside my hands," alludes to the idea of finding solace in religion but still not finding the answers one's looking for. The idea of being lost and found and how sinners and saints are all the same convey the idea of seeking redemption; however, it can be an arduous journey. The lines, "I lost faith in you before I was ready, I blame the father, son, the church, and holy ghost, but mainly myself for all the way I turned out," shows that the singer has been let down by external factors, including society and religion, but ultimately admits that they are to blame for who they have become.

Overall, "Just as I Am" by Major League conveys the importance of self-discovery and acceptance while highlighting the external factors that interfere with personal growth and development.

This was a hell of a movie and sadly we won’t see something like it again.

Bill Durham is great baseball comedy. But I highly suggest doing a YouTube search of Savannah Bananas. Banana Ball is the future!

Gavin

not really, its just nostalgia talking. They used the same scene of him fouling the ball, its just an example of how movies weren't as refined in detail as they are today.

Idk why people say things like this, you can have your preferences but movies made today are just better.
