The band announced they had signed with Rise Records and would be recording a new album in February 2012. On June 19th, 2012, the band released a new record, (Everything You Ever Loved). While technically members of "The Wave", along with La Dispute, Touché Amoré, Pianos Become the Teeth, and Defeater, the band has since clarified that "The Wave" was merely an inside joke between those bands and does not represent a particular movement or subgenre in post-hardcore.

Make Do and Mend Lyrics

It's about time now that you put your pride away,
'Cause there's something about how the words sound when they're coming out of your own mouth
That make you wonder what you think this weighs.
We're the lucky ones
And we tore these days undone.
We're the bastard sons
You've heard enough by now to know,
There's lines to cross and lines to leave alone.
You're worth a fools weight in gold
Until they let you go.
For what it's worth I think you've got some nerve.
It's what you earn and not what you deserve
That keep the feet below your knees planted to the ground,
So set your sights ahead and chase it down.
We're the lucky ones
And we tore these days undone.
We're the bastard sons
Who squandered every mile they let us run.
If this is all a dream
Then I beg you to let me sleep,
'Cause I've found something worth all I've given up
Give in, fade out.
Raise the bar, or set it down,
'Cause you can't change the rules they made to suit yourself.
Give in, fade out.
Raise the bar, or set it down,
'Cause you can't change the rules they made to suit yourself.
We're the lucky ones
And we tore these days undone.
We're the bastard sons
Who squandered every mile they let us run.
(We're the lucky ones)
If this is all a dream
(When it's said and done)
Then I beg you to let me sleep,
(We're the bastard sons)
'Cause I've found something worth all I've given up
(And we tore these days undone)
The song Lucky by Make Do and Mend begins with the idea of self-reflection and acknowledging one's own ego. The lyrics talk about how it's time to put your pride aside and recognize that your ego may be hindering you from achieving your goals. This realization is powerful because it makes you wonder why you carried that weight for so long.
The chorus, "We're the lucky ones, and we tore these days undone. We're the bastard sons who squandered every mile they let us run" speaks about the band's journey as musicians. They acknowledge the hardships they have faced, but also express gratitude for the opportunities they have had. The last line, "Who squandered every mile they let us run," gives meaning to the idea of being lucky. For Make Do and Mend, their luck came in the form of being able to play music, but they also recognize that they had to work hard to get where they are.
The verse "Give in, fade out. Raise the bar or set it down, 'Cause you can't change the rules they made to suit yourself" speaks about the struggle between conformity and individuality. Society has rules and expectations, and sometimes it can be hard to find a balance between following those rules and staying true to oneself. However, the lyrics suggest that it's necessary to adapt to the rules while staying true to oneself.
Overall, Lucky is a song about introspection, gratitude and the struggles and rewards of being a musician.

If you found these guys the same way I did, by searching through heavy rise records songs, then just give it about 2 minutes. Once you adjust from the shift in intensity, these guys are actually a really fun listen with something unique going for them. Good sign, Rise.
