Manny Manuel was born on the mountain town of Orocovis, Puerto Rico. He studied elementary and high school in the José Rojas Cortés School at his hometown. Since a young age, he started presenting himself in talent shows and other musical activities. He later joined the group Tempo Merenguero, and subsequently became a vocalist and choreographer for the merengue duo of Mayra y Celinés.
After recording these two albums with Los Sabrosos del Merengue, Manuel decided to pursue a solo career. In June 1994, Manuel left the group and in October 1 of the same year debuted as a solo artist. Several months later, he released his first solo album titled Rey de Corazones. The album was certified platinum after a few weeks. With the success of the album, on November, 1995, Manuel presented himself at the Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Center selling out six shows.
In 1996, he released his second album titled Auténtico followed by concerts at the Guaynabo Performing Arts Center and at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum. Manuel released his next album titled Es Mi Tiempo in 1998 which included the hits Como Duele, Margarita, and a cover of Alejandro Sanz' song Corazón Partío. The album took him on a tour through Spain where the album was certified gold. His next album, Lleno de Vida, preceded a second presentation at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum. This concert was recorded and later released on CD.
After a change of labels and a move to the United States, Manuel released the album Serenata in 2003, which included covers of traditional romantic songs. The album sold over 100,000 and Manuel followed it with yet another presentation at the Coliseum in 2004. For this album, he was also nominated for a Latin Grammy.
In 2007, he released another album, Tengo Tanto, which included fusions of merengue with other Caribbean rhythms like vallenato. Manuel was one of several artists selected to perform in "KQ Live Concert" on September 27, 2008, organized by KQ 105 FM, the event included several renowned artists from Puerto Rico and other Latin American locations
Nostalgia
Manny Manuel Lyrics

para olvidar un loco amor
que más que amor es un sufrir
Y aquí vengo para eso,
a borrar antiguos besos
en las besos de otras bocas
¿Porqué causa siempre es mía
esa cruel preocupación?
Quiero por los dos mi copa alzar
para olvidar mi obstinación
y más la vuelvo a recordar
Nostalgia de escuchar su risa loca
y sentir junto a mi boca
como un fuego su respiración
Angustia de sentirme abandonado
y pensar que otro a su lado
pronto, pronto le hablará de amor
¡Hermano! Yo no quiero rebajarme
ni pedirle, ni llorarle, ni decirle
que no puedo más vivir
Desde mi triste soledad
veré caer las rosas
muertas de mi juventud.
Gime, bandoneón, tu tango gris,
quizá a ti te hiera igual
algún amor sentimental
Llora mi alma de fantoche
sola y triste en esta noche,
noche negra y sin estrellas
Si las copas traen consuelo
aquí estoy con mi desvelo
para ahogarlo de una vez
Quiero emborrachar al corazón
para después poder brindar
por los fracasos del amor
Nostalgia de escuchar su risa loca
y sentir junto a mi boca
como un fuego su respiración
Angustia de sentirme abandonado
y pensar que otro a su lado
pronto, pronto le hablará de amor
¡Hermano! Yo no quiero rebajarme
ni pedirle, ni llorarle, ni decirle
que no puedo más vivir
Desde mi triste soledad
veré caer las rosas
muertas de mi juventud
In the song "Nostalgia" by Manny Manuel, the lyrics speak of trying to forget a painful and crazy love by getting drunk. The singer wishes to drown his sorrows and erase the memories of past kisses by finding solace in the lips of another. The love he speaks of was short-lived, but his heart remains burdened with cruel preoccupations. The repetition of the word "nostalgia" emphasizes the haunting thoughts of his lost love, particularly her wild laughter and the sensation of her breath on his lips.
The singer expresses his anguish at feeling abandoned and imagines that his former lover will soon be talking about love with someone new. He refuses to plead or beg for her to return to him, even though he is consumed with emotion. Instead, he seeks to numb his pain with alcohol. The final lines of the song reveal the singer's acceptance of his fate: observing the decay of the roses of his youth from his lonely place, letting the bandoneón's tango music express his sorrow and tears.
