1) Is a project by Martin Schindler founded on or about 1997 which disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2008. Both Martin Schindler and Tina Schindler are also active in electro act Black Heaven and metal outfit Sepia.
The band's name derives from Roman and Etruscan mythology, where Mantus and his wife, Mania were gods of the underworld. They were associated with the city Mantua. Mantus was identified as the "leader of souls", escorting the souls of the dead down into the underworld.
As already said, Mantus is a project by Martin Schindler. But his idea of dark romance only could have been realised by alternating singing of female and male voices. That's why he involved his sister always named as Thalia, which is certainly not her real name.
So the alternating female/male-singing is one incisive aspect of Mantus' musical appearance. Overall the style of the music ranges doom-metal to some kind of pop. The texts contain themes like love, hate, death, perpetuity or immortality but also criticism on global problems as racism, xenophobia and rape.
The reason for their minor popularity in spite of existing for 8 years and releasing 6 albums is that they never gave concerts or appeared in the charts (they never had any ambitions, too).

Mantus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Falle tief ins Mittelmaß
Zuviel Bruch in meinem Kopf
Und Gedankenwelt aus Glas
Alles was sich ändern kann
Bleibt letztendlich immer gleich
Und "die Flüchtlinge sind schuld
Jedenfalls vielleicht"
Gefangen in Realität
Es ist ein Teil, der in mir stirbt
Und niemand weiß, was mit uns noch passiert
Ich schweige laut, bin nicht gewillt
Wenn immer nur dies eine Mantra gilt:
Dann halt es aus
Ich halt es aus
The lyrics in the song "Mantra" by Mantus delve into themes of monotony, mediocrity, and the feeling of being trapped in a stagnant and unsatisfying existence. The opening lines, "Jeden Tag dasselbe Spiel, Falle tief ins Mittelmaß" (Every day the same game, fall deep into mediocrity), express a sense of repetition and being stuck in a cycle of monotony. The singer feels trapped in a world where everything remains the same and nothing ever really changes.
The next lines, "Zuviel Bruch in meinem Kopf, Und Gedankenwelt aus Glas" (Too much breakage in my mind, And a thoughtscape made of glass), convey a state of turmoil and fragility within the singer's mind. They struggle with broken thoughts and a vulnerable state of being, as if their inner world is easily shattered.
The lyrics then touch upon the scapegoating and blaming of refugees as the cause of society's problems, with the line "Und 'die Flüchtlinge sind schuld, Jedenfalls vielleicht'" (And 'the refugees are to blame, At least maybe'). This suggests a sense of uncertainty and ambivalence towards the prevailing narrative of blame.
The chorus reflects a feeling of resignation and a questioning of whether it is too late for a fresh start or any sense of new beginning. The lines "Für Neuanfang ist es zu spät, Ist all das schon Normalität?" (It is too late for a fresh start, Is all of this already normalcy?) express doubt about the possibility of change and whether the current state of affairs has become the new normal.
The following verses highlight a sense of despair and apprehension about the future. The singer feels as if a part of themselves is dying, unable to predict what lies ahead. The line "Es ist ein Teil, der in mir stirbt, Und niemand weiß, was mit uns noch passiert" (It is a part of me that is dying, And no one knows what will happen to us) captures the fear and uncertainty of the future.
The repetition of the phrase "Ich halt es aus" (I endure it) throughout the song serves as a mantra, expressing the singer's determination to carry on despite the challenges and uncertainties. It reflects a sense of resilience and determination to persist even in difficult times, as the singer acknowledges that they have no choice but to endure and face whatever comes their way.
Overall, "Mantra" is a reflection on the frustrations of a monotonous existence, the fragility of the mind, and the uncertain future. It highlights the struggle to find hope and meaning in a world that seems to resist change.
