Camarade

C'est un joli nom tu sais
Qui marie cerise et grenade
Aux cent fleurs du mois de mai
Pendant des années Camarade
Pendant des années tu sais
Avec ton seul nom comme aubade
Les lèvres s'épanouissaient
C'est un nom terrible Camarade
C'est un nom terrible à dire
Quand, le temps d'une mascarade
Il ne fait plus que frémir
Que venez-vous faire Camarade
Que venez-vous faire ici
Ce fut à cinq heures dans Prague
Que le mois d'août s'obscurcit
Camarade Camarade
C'est un joli nom Camarade
C'est un joli nom tu sais
Dans mon cœur battant la chamade
Pour qu'il revive à jamais
Se marient cerise et grenade
Aux cent fleurs du mois de mai
The song Camarade by Marc Lavoine is a tribute to the name Camarade, which the singer describes as both beautiful and terrible. In the first verse, he sings about how the name Camarade evokes images of cherries, pomegranates, and flowers in the month of May. He also suggests that the name Camarade has the power to make lips smile and hearts flutter.
In the second verse, however, the tone shifts and the singer reveals a darker side to the name Camarade. He sings about how the name can be difficult to say, especially during trying times like a masquerade. He also references an event in Prague in which the month of August turned dark at five o'clock, suggesting that Camarade may be associated with political upheaval or tragedy.
Overall, the song seems to be both a celebration and a cautionary tale about the power of names and the emotions that they can evoke. Whether beautiful or terrible, a name carries significant weight and can have a lasting impact on those who bear it or use it.
