Eadnán bákti
ja mearra
ja albmi don leat
Seammá nanus
ja njuovžil
ja geahpas
go dat
Àiggiid čađa
du dedde
ja jaskkodit ge
muhto
ieš eallin bealuštii
du
cuožžilit
De luohte don lieđđi leat

Eatnigiella mus čuodjá
du sátnin
don mus
Ádden sániid
dat čudjet
ja gulan du mus
It leat fáŋga
it bálvá
it ráiggiid duokŋas
Dus maid lohppi lea dárbbašit
jeđđehusa
go ollu
dus gáibidan leat

Dat du futnot
go dihtet
don vuoigadis leat
Vearridaguid
sii
čihket
ja giellásiid
buot
Don leat áhkku
leat oabbá
leat nissonolmmoš
Danin
dus ballet
go eallin
du bealde
lea
Girdde

don loddi maid leat
Ja luohte don lieđđi leat

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mari Boine's song Eadnan bakti can be seen as a dialogue between the parts of the physical world and the singer's soul. The opening lines translate to "The earth's surface and marrow, and the white snow that you own. The wind rustles and the fire flickers, it means that new Earth is born." These lines seem to be celebrating the beauty of the natural world and how it is constantly renewing itself.

The next lines refer to a conversation with the singer's own soul, imagining it as a separate entity from herself. She asks her soul to listen to her words, to hear the stories that are being told, and to feel her pain. The last lines seem to again celebrate her connection with the natural world, saying "And the flame of what you own will be cooked, as you know, spirits will laugh and speak. You have a grandmother, a grandfather, a mother. That's why you should live your life in peace. And the light of what you own" suggests that the beauty and light that is within each person should be nurtured and celebrated.

Overall, the lyrics of the song seem to be reflecting on the connection between the physical world and the spiritual world, and the importance of living in harmony with both.

Dear Mari, I saw you live many years ago. The concert was in Germany in the city of Magdeburg in the Karstadt restaurant. There were two feelings in me. The one thing, I was so lucky to experience you. The other thing, I was so shocked that the organizers didn't understand who they had on stage there. At the end, the organizers gave you an oversized bottle of sparkling wine. At that moment I was ashamed of it. I had discovered your music many years before the concert. And this discovery almost came as a shock to me. Because my ego had experienced for the first time where my soul is at home. That was an overwhelming feeling. I was so young and I had to learn to deal with it. I thank you so much that you have built a bridge for me and many others with your creative power into a world, that has its origin before this time and for which so many yearn without knowing it. I wish you in gratitude the best! Elsa

You are so gracefully beautiful. Like a fine wine 🍷 you're getting better and better with age. When I was researching my Samí heritage years ago your music connected me in such a beautiful way. I hope to visit and see you perform live. Love from the USA ❤️
