Estado de Poesia
Maria Bethânia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
A canção do bem querer
É belo vês o amor sem anestesia
Dói de bom, arde de doce
Queima, acalma, mata, cria
Pra misturar meia noite meio dia
E enfim saber que cantaria a cantoria
Que há tanto tempo queria
A canção do bem querer
É belo vês o amor sem anestesia
Dói de bom, arde de doce
Queima, acalma, mata, cria
Chega tem vez que a pessoa que enamora
Se pega e chora do que ontem mesmo ria
Chega tem hora que ri de dentro pra fora
Não fica nem vai embora
É o estado de poesia
The lyrics of Maria Bethânia's song "Estado de Poesia" convey deep emotional and poetic reflections on love and self-discovery. The opening lines speak of living in a state of poetry, where the singer immerses themselves in the essence of their beloved, symbolized by the "sertões de você," translating to the vast and intricate parts of the other person. By doing so, they can forget the life they led before meeting this person, characterized as a nomadic existence ("cigania") filled with self-deception and illusions chosen willingly, unaware of the inevitable enchantment that would come with encountering the entirety of their beloved's being.
The longing to blend midnight with midday signifies a desire to harmonize opposites and find balance in their emotions, ultimately realizing the fulfillment of singing the song of love that they've yearned for so long. This depicts a powerful transformation and a deep connection that brings joy and sorrow in equal measure. The raw, unfiltered nature of love without anesthesia is described as both exhilarating and painful, with its ability to simultaneously burn, soothe, destroy, and create. The complexity of love is further illustrated through the conflicting emotions of laughter and tears, reflecting the unpredictable yet captivating essence of being in love.
The repetition of the verses emphasizes the singer's determination to embrace this state of poetry fully, seeking solace and completion in the presence of their beloved. The cyclical nature of life, where laughter and tears, joy and pain intertwine, is portrayed as an integral part of this poetic state, demonstrating that love is a continuous journey of discovery and transformation. The imagery of laughter and tears coexisting within the same emotional landscape further underscores the multifaceted nature of love and its ability to evoke profound and contrasting feelings.
In conclusion, "Estado de Poesia" delves into the intricacies of love, self-awareness, and emotional vulnerability, portraying love as a transformative force that transcends boundaries and defies expectations. Through vivid imagery and heartfelt sentiments, Maria Bethânia captures the essence of being in love and embracing the unpredictable yet enriching journey towards self-discovery and emotional fulfillment. The song celebrates the beauty and complexity of love, portraying it as a state of poetry where emotions intertwine, creating a profound and lasting impact on the singer's soul.

Para deixar a vida que eu vivia
De cigania, antes de te conhecer

Pra misturar meia-noite, meio-dia
E enfim saber que cantaria a cantoria
