Melodia Sentimental
Maria Bethânia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
que dorme na noite escura
que surge tão bela e branca
derramando doçura
clara chama silente
ardendo meu sonhar
As asas da noite que surgem
e correm o espaço profundo
vem dar teu calor ao luar
Quisera saber-te minha
na hora serena e calma
a sombra confia ao vento
o limite da espera
quando dentro da noite
reclama o teu amor
Acorda, vem olhar a lua
que brilha na noite escura
querida, és linda e meiga
sentir meu amor e sonhar
The lyrics of Maria Bethânia's song Melodia Sentimental evoke a sense of longing and desire. The song begins with an invitation to awaken and look at the moon that is sleeping in the dark night. The moon is described as beautiful and white, and it pours sweetness over everything. The silent flame that burns in the singer's heart ignites the dream of the beloved. The night wings that arise and run deep into space symbolize the singer's yearning for the lover's presence, the lover who is as sweet and gentle as the moon.
The singer wishes to possess the beloved and to have her all to himself in moments of serenity and calmness. The shadow entrusts its secrets to the wind as it waits for its love to come. The singer's love is so strong, it demands to be heard in the stillness of the night. The moon becomes a metaphor for the beloved, who is cherished for her beauty and tenderness. The singer's love is projected onto the moon and is reflected back as the singer dreams about the beloved. The song's slow tempo and soft melody enhance the romantic mood that the lyrics create.
