Vou danado pra Catende
Vou danado pra Catende
Com vontade de chegar
Lá vai o trem com o menino
Lá vai a vida a rodar
Lá vai ciranda e destino
Lá vai o trem sem destino
Pro dia novo encontrar
Correndo vai pela terra
Vai pela serra, vai pelo mar
Cantando pela serra o luar
Correndo entre as estrelas a voar
No ar, no ar
Vou danado pra Catende
Vou danado pra Catende
Vou danado pra Catende
Com vontade de chegar
Mergulham mocambos
Nos mangues molhados
Moleques mulatos
Vem vê-lo passar
— Adeus!
— Adeus!
Mangueiras, coqueiros
Cajueiros em flor
Cajueiros com frutos
Já bons de chupar
— Adeus, morena do cabelo cacheado!
Vou danado pra Catende
Vou danado pra Catende
Vou danado pra Catende
Com vontade de chegar
Cana-caiana
Cana-roxa
Cana-fita
Cada qual a mais bonita
Todas boas de chupar
Vou danado pra Catende
Vou danado pra Catende
Vou danado pra Catende
Com vontade de chegar
Lá vai o trem com o menino
Lá vai a vida a rodar
Lá vai ciranda e destino
Cidade e noite a girar
Lá vai o trem sem destino
Pro dia novo encontrar
Correndo vai pela terra
Vai pela serra, vai pelo mar
Cantando pela serra o luar
Correndo entre as estrelas a voar
No ar, no ar
The lyrics of "Trenzinho Caipira" by Maria Bethânia depict a journey on a train to the city of Catende. The song speaks of the rhythm and movement of life as the train takes its passengers through different landscapes, such as mangroves, plantations, and mountains. The repetitive verse "Vou danado pra Catende" expresses the eagerness of the singer to arrive at their destination.
The song also touches on themes of diversity and inclusivity. The verse "Moleques mulatos/Vem vê-lo passar" highlights the presence of mixed-race children who come to see the train go by. The mention of a "morena do cabelo cacheado" further emphasizes the singer's appreciation for the beauty and diversity of people and places along the journey.
