The lyrics of Mariachi's song "El Rey" are a reflection of the singer's self-confidence, even in the face of adversity. He acknowledges that he is currently on the outside, but he knows that upon his death, those who seemed to reject him will realize too late that they will miss him. He goes on to assert that, though he may not have material riches or someone to understand him, he always does as he pleases, and his word is his law.
